P6/5 have been really excited this week learning about electricity. We discussed the different kinds of energy and where it comes from and we created posters showing forms of energy. We then created basic electric circuits. Pupils were then set a challenge to build a potato clock. All groups were successfully able to get an electrical charge which turned the clock on, although there wasn’t enough charge to make them work. Some pupils persevered and experimented with digging out the potato to make it more ‘juicy’ and others tried to coat the copper in different ways. Others challenged themselves to create the largest circuit of fans they could. The whole class became involved and one group managed to create a circuit involving one switch, 5 batteries and 25 fans!

Harvest with P 3/2
We have been enjoying learning about the Christian harvest festival. We took notes from a story about a special apple that was taken to church for a harvest festival. From there we looked at the life cycle of an apple and then decided to create apple crumble so we could enjoy it. We had fun making it.
P6/5 2 stars and a wish
- We really enjoyed challenge Friday. (We might even have won!)
- We liked doing written algorithms in maths, especially the NRich challenge which was extra hot!
- That Mrs Williamson plays football at P.E.
Challenge Friday
All classes from P5 to P7 are taking part in Challenge Friday this year. They compete in their classes to complete different problem solving challenges each week. There is then a winning team from each class and an overall winner each week. Points are being kept and a league table is displayed with the winning points each week. Challenges so far have included creating a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows, building a strong bridge from newspaper and paper clips and creating a cup pyramid using only a ‘cup mover’.
P6/5 2 Stars and a wish
- We enjoyed starting to create our wall displays for VIB.
- We liked P.E. with Mrs Coutts
- To play corner dodgeball in P.E.
P6/5 Class Charter
P6/5 have been busy this week creating their class charter. We worked as a team to decide on the most relevant UNCRC articles for school and then brainstormed what the pupils will do and what the teacher will do to ensure that these rights are always respected. The pupils decided on a sports theme and have called it the P6/5 Dream Team. The charter is displayed in class and can be referred to at any time.
PE with Primary 3 and 4/3
We have enjoyed doing stations in PE this week. The stations have included such things as hula hoops, football, hurdles and space hoppers. The children have had a great time experiencing each one and have asked that they do the same for PE next week. They worked well in their teams and ensured that they followed the instructions and rules for each game.

Climate Change and Animal Habitats in P3 and P4/3
As part of our theme on animals around the world we have been working on climate and how if affects different habitats. We discussed why climate change is happening and how we can take steps to reduce the pollution. In groups we created posters encouraging people to stop climate change by recycling, walking instead of taking the car and turning off the tv when it’s not being watched!
P7- The Sun is out- Time for the Solar power circuit challenge
The sun was shining bright on Boghall this week. It was time for the solar power circuit challenge. Pupils were given a box of materials and set the challenge to build a circuit using solar energy to make the propellor and buzzer work. We observed and recorded what we did and shared our findings and conclusions with the class.
