2nd star It was fun learning some facts about the history of Bathgate.
Wish We would like to learn more about the history of Bathgate.
P6/5 have been learning about different types of natural disaster. They were keen to find out more about volcanoes and completed many challenges finding out about where volcanoes are and researching the city of Pompeii after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pupils worked in groups to create their own papier mache volcanoes. We then took them outside and simulated eruptions using coke and mentos. Everyone had a lot of fun but it was a bit sticky!
As part of learning about the solar system, P6/5 were set the challenge to create and label a model of the solar system. The success criteria stated that it must include all planets and the sun, it must be labelled and it must show the correct order of the planets from the sun. Everyone worked really hard and came up with some innovative ideas of how to represent each planet.

This week during reading Primary 3’s have been looking at a non fiction book called Food As Art. From this they were asked to create their own food picture. The P2s joined in with this activity by looking at their own book and choosing a suitable picture that they could create from the same materials. They had great fun creating their pictures.
We are thoroughly enjoying our Pirate theme. This week we have researched famous pirates including Blackbeard and Mary Read. We found out some interesting facts about them. Did you know Blackbeard put fuses at the end of his beard to scare people?
We also looked at pirate clothing and were challenged to be creative and design our own pirate costume.
As we are a Rights Respecting school we have been looking at the articles from the UNCRC that are especially related to our life in school and class. After a whole class discussion we identified which articles we could use. We then decided what the children and the teacher could do to help the children get these rights. We then brought it to life my making a treasure chest display.
As part of our theme on animals around the world we have been working on climate and how if affects different habitats. We discussed why climate change is happening and how we can take steps to reduce the pollution. In groups we created posters encouraging people to stop climate change by recycling, walking instead of taking the car and turning off the tv when it’s not being watched!
All lined up to ‘ congo’ to the lunch hall.
Tucking into our delicious lunch.
Happy times with our classmates.
