All classes from P5 to P7 are taking part in Challenge Friday this year. They compete in their classes to complete different problem solving challenges each week. There is then a winning team from each class and an overall winner each week. Points are being kept and a league table is displayed with the winning points each week. Challenges so far have included creating a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows, building a strong bridge from newspaper and paper clips and creating a cup pyramid using only a ‘cup mover’.

We have just started our topic on Animals around the World. Â So far we have identified the major continents and oceans of the world and have classified animals into groups. Â We have also investigated animal habitats all over the world.
For writing we thought it would be great fun to do a practical activity before we started our writing. Â We made an animal face sandwich. After we made our sandwich we wrote instructions to show how we made it.
Don’t they look amazing!! Â The children were very proud of their work.

Roman Fashion Design in P3 and P4/3
P3 and P4/3 were given the challenge to design and make a pair of Roman sandals that would fit a member of their group. After looking carefully at the design of Roman sandals they had to choose their material and then work out how to make their sandal. All teams created a pair of sandals that stayed on and the majority of teams made sandals that fitted the team member it was supposed to fit. Judging from the designs there are definitely some budding fashion designers of the future at work here!
