P7 Visit to the Poppy Factory

P7 went on a trip to the Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory in Edinburgh. They got the chance to learn about WW1 and WW2 and experienced an interactive workshop where some of us got to dress up as soldiers! We met the ex-service men who work in the factory, learned about the history of the poppy and then got the chance to make some poppies. We felt very lucky to have had the chance to visit and it was a very worthwhile learning experience.

P6/P7 Business Pitches

Yesterday, Primary 6, Primary 7/6 and Primary 7 presented their business ideas to Derrick Findlay of 1st Choice Living in Bathgate. Derrick came as a potential investor and was extremely impressed with what he saw. He said the children were all very confident and could see some stars in the making! After listening to all the pitches, he decided to invest in every single business! Everyone involved should be very proud! Now time to start selling…

Safety Scenarios in P4/3

As part of health and wellbeing, P4/3 were thinking about safety in different situations today. In groups they had to role play making good choices, wrong choices or difficult choices in a range of different situations. We discussed choices about crossing the road, playing with matches and eating and drinking unknown substances. Each group made the choice of how to act out the scene which led to some excellent discussion about what could happen. We will continue next week with some more situations.

Netball Masterclass

All pupils at Boghall took part in different masterclasses yesterday. These pupils were enjoying taking part in netball. They watched some videos on the rules and how to play, then they designed their own sports strip. They then played some games and finally we had a mini tournament. All pupils seemed to enjoy themselves and well done to Arran Marr and Lewis Flockhart who were named the star players on the day.

Netball Festival

The Boghall Primary netball team participated in their first festival of the year this week. It was held in Boghall and teams from St Marys, Balbardie and Simpson came along. All players really enjoyed the afternoon and Boghall came third. The points will be carried over to the next festival, held at Simpson Primary in February.

A Field of Poppies

Last week Primary 3 took notes from the Poppy Scotland website during writing time. This activity helped them appreciate the significance of the poppy.  During an expressive arts lesson they recreated their own fields of poppies using a dabbing technique with their paintbrushes.  Their finished pictures were fantastic.

Curriculum Night Thursday 13th November

Thanks to all those who attended the recent evening.  Presentations and examples of pupil’s work  were shared.

The main themes of the evening were ‘Growth and Fixed Mindsets’ based on the work of Carol Dweck and ‘Mild / Spicy and Hot’ – our differentiated tasks. We hope this will help parents by giving information on what you can do to help your child make  maximum progress in everything.

Freya’s mum (Freya is in P3) won the the £20 voucher for Boghall Butchers and 4 other families got vouchers for lesser amounts also as a ‘thanks for attending’ prize.

Thanks to all who turned out on such a dreary night and well done to the boys and girls who attended and behaved so well !
