P3/2 – Pirates

We are thoroughly enjoying our Pirate theme.  This week we have researched famous pirates including Blackbeard and Mary Read.  We found out some interesting facts about them.  Did you know Blackbeard put fuses at the end of his beard to scare people?

We also looked at pirate clothing and were challenged to be creative and design our own pirate costume.

P7/6 Growth Mindsets

Primary 7/6 have been revising how important it is to have a growth mindset. We discussed the differences between a growth and fixed mindset and how having the right attitude can help you to succeed. We then painted self portraits of ourselves in the style of Picasso and wrote growth mindset statements to help us be resilient when we are finding something difficult…

Challenge Friday

All classes from P5 to P7 are taking part in Challenge Friday this year. They compete in their classes to complete different problem solving challenges each week. There is then a winning team from each class and an overall winner each week. Points are being kept and a league table is displayed with the winning points each week. Challenges so far have included creating a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows, building a strong bridge from newspaper and paper clips and creating a cup pyramid using only a ‘cup mover’.

P7 Credit and Debit

As part of our financial education programme, P7 have been learning all about credit and debit. We learned about the differences between credit and debit and had a go at calculating interest. We looked at using a credit card wisely and what can happen if you use credit you can’t afford to pay back. We were then set a challenge to show our understanding of credit and debit. Some groups chose to do a news report while others created a lego movie, drama or poster.
