A reminder that that ECO Committee will be collecting Christmas cards and paper for recycling. Members of the ECO Group will be going round the classes and nursery when we return next week.
Please support our recycling campaign by sending in all used cards and paper.

P4 have had a great time making our hats for the panto and today’s Christmas Lunch! …. We especially enjoyed eating our delicious lunch!

We have been looking at the differences between migrants and refugees. We read the story of Paddington who was a refugee from Peru. He travelled to the United Kingdom on a boat as he had been the victim of an earthquake. This linked in really well with our current topic on natural disasters. We had already realised that you could only travel with the minimum amount of personal belongings when you are faced with such a problem.
Current UK Law does not acknowledge certain people as part of a family and we wanted to try and help change this by creating our own origami boat and putting a slogan on it to help encourage the UK government to do this. We identified that a campaigner called Lord Dubs was also a refugee early on in his life. We found this very interesting.

This year the ECO Group have decided to run a Christmas Card recycle campaign. We will be recycling via the Morrisons store in Bathgate.
We encourage you to send in all your used Christmas Cards. Why not involve your friends and family too! 🙂
The ECO Group will be going around all classes when we return after the Christmas break collecting the used cards. The final collection date is Monday 22nd January 2018.
In ECO we trust. Re-cycle we must!

The ECO Committee
Some of our Choir members sang to the Memory Cafe group at Rosemount Court on Monday. Chris from the Church organised the event and was super impressed with our Choir’s beautiful voices and fantastic behaviour. We were even treated to a biscuit and some juice – yum yum!
In class today we have been learning about refugees and their rights. Ask your child to discuss with you the difference between refugees and migrants and to share their understanding of the rights of refugee children.
We discussed the story of Paddington Bear and how he had been sent away from Peru to keep him safe. We also watched a short video of a young boy named Chad who had left his homeland to seek safety.
Activity 1:
We discussed and collated a list of adjective to describe the emotions that Chad and his family would be feeling. I was extremely impressed with the fantastic adjectives the children came up with!
Activity 2:
The children were given the challenge to think of 7 items that they would take with them if they were to leave their home and be sent to another country in order to keep them safe.

Attached are some photos from the very successful Christmas Fayre which was held on Tuesday 28th November. Thanks again to the Parent Council for organising such a fantastic night! Thanks also to staff, pupils and parents/carers for all their help and for coming along.
We have had great fun this week celebrating Scottish Book Week.
The children were so excited to see their new library and are loving chilling out with a good book, cosy blanket and cushions!
A HUGE thank you to everyone that managed to make it along to our Open Afternoon today. We hope you enjoyed sharing our reading with us!

It’s time for the EXTREME READING CHALLENGE!
As part of Book Week Scotland we are running a photo competition about extreme reading. The idea is for children to have photos taken of them reading in the most interesting/extreme places. We are then going to make a display in the school library with the photos.
Upload a photo of you reading somewhere unusual onto the Yammer page (P5-7) or upload onto the one drive and share with your class teacher. You could also print a copy and bring in or use the community wing facilities to help.
The more unusual – the more fun! Enjoy your extreme reading and remember to stay safe!
