Teddy Bears Picnic

Try at Home Challenge-One Planet Picnic, a picnic that is good for you and good for the planet!

Can you have a Teddy Bears Picnic as part of Earth Day 2020 on Wednesday 22nd April? Could you have a picnic in your living room or in your own garden at home and send us in some photos?

Things to think about:

  • Choose what you eat for your picnic but can you also include one item that has been produced or grown in Scotland or some local and seasonal food too?
  • Can you reduce food packaging and waste or perhaps recycle any food packaging and wrappers to make something after your picnic?

If you don’t have a teddy then any toy is welcome to come along!

Start a Nature Diary

What can you see, hear, smell???

The weather has been so beautiful lately, and is set to be sunny and dry all week.  It’s a great time to start a nature diary.  Look out the window each day, or go out into your garden and draw or write what you see. Birds, flowers, the weather.  We’d love to see some of your work.  You can either post here or send to wlboghall-ps@westlothian.org.uk

P1 Snow Day

Hope you are all enjoying your snow day!

Here are some other activities for P1 to try:

  • Practise writing your tricky words in the snow
  • How many snowballs can you make in 30 seconds? How many in 1 minute?
  • Choose a character from your reading book and draw/write what they could do in the snow
  • Practise some maths games on EducationCity (your login details are at the front of your diary)

Parent Helpers

We are always looking for parents out there who would like to come in and help!

For those of you who have not volunteered before but would be interested in doing so, here is a brief summary of the type of jobs you could be asked to do:

  • Work with small groups of children on a variety of tasks e.g. art, library, games, phonics, maths, word walls
  • Sharpen pencils, clean paint trays
  • Supervise children working in open areas
  • Mount work for display purposes
  • Take display work down from walls
  • Filing
  • Make costumes for school productions
  • Gardening
  • Admin tasks

There is also a separate list of parents who are happy to help with school outings or events and can be contacted on a ‘one-off’ basis.

If you think you could offer any time to help in school, please contact the school office for a form.

Please note: it is essential that you are disclosed if you wish to be a parent helper. Please call into school and fill in one of the new Disclosure Scotland PVG forms if you do not have a current disclosure. These are available from Mrs Roy in the office.

Parent helpers are an enormous help in the school and your talents and time are much appreciated.
