Dragon Drama in P1l

There has been great excitment in P1l this week as on Monday we received a rather burned letter from a dragon going by the name of Dennis.  Dennis asked us about a girl he had met in the woods talking about porridge and seeming to be rather upset.  Very quickly we knew he was talking about Goldilocks and this week we have been working on lots of things relating to the story.  Some of the things we have done are: painted pictures, made bear faces, made different sized chairs, sorted things according to size, written to Dennis and retold the story.  Some of us have even seen evidence of Dennis including drips of what could only be dragon slime or scales.  We are not sure if Dennis will come again but we all agree it would be good to have another visit from our friendly dragon.

Bye P1l

Inventions are Fun! by p4g

In maths this week we have been learning about division and we also discovered that not all dividing sums equally divide and that means you get a remainder. Remainders are what is left over.

For spelling we have been doing telephone spelling and we challenged each other by trying to decode each others spelling words! We enjoyed it!

For story writing we did Writer’s Craft where we had to create our own chapter of George’s Marvellous Medicine. We were challenged to write an alternative plot of what happened to Grandma when she ate George’s Medicine! It was very fun!

We learned how to use the new netbooks to research famous inventors.  We learned that John logie baird invented the television for home entertainment and Alexander Flemming invented Penicillin which is an antibiotic that fights off infections.

Our five class ipads were delivered yesterday and we are very excited to use them to support our learning next week.

This week’s Special Person is Jane because:

  • She is very kind
  • She is beautiful
  • She is a kind friend
  • She has fun sleepovers!
  • She always smiles
  • She produces outstanding and amazing work!
  • She is lovely
  • She is not fussy
  • She works very hard in school
  • She always pays attention to the teacher
  • She is very friendly
  • Even though she is shy, she always tries to be confident (Jane agrees!)
  • She is helpful to others during maths time
  • You will hardly ever see her involved in an argument
  • She has lovely blues eyes
  • She is greater than great!

Enjoy your September weekend!

P6a Reach for the Stars

This week in Primary 6a we have been learning about stars. Did you know that our sun is really a star? We are going to learn more about the stars and planets that make up our universe.

On Monday we had a visit from Childline, which was really interesting and we learned a lot about how Childline can help. We also memorised the phone number for Childline 0800 1111

We shared our Home Learning on Tuesday and we also learned more about remembering types of questions. This type of questions tests what you can remember from your home reading. We can remember a lot and are going to work on understanding questions next week.

We have had many achievements this week, both in and out of school

Callum was signed by Murieston Whites FC and will now play alongside Nathan.

Flyn drew in his muay thai fight (against a more experienced opponent)

Adam did NINE backflips on his trampoline

Chloe achieved grade 2 in tap, ballet and jazz

Finlay was asked to join Linlithgow Rugby Club

Harry and Jay both passed the pre-grading black belt

Isla is our Class Dojo champion with 11 points. The class total for positive points is 179.

*****Antonia is our Pupil of the Week!*****

Hope you all enjoy your long weekend (and remember that Home Learning should be handed in on Wednesday next week).

M&D’s and the 5 senses

M&D’s

This week, class 1, 2 and 3 had a wonderful day out at M&D’s theme park!  There were lots of things to see and do at M&D’s.  We enjoyed going on the rides and some of us even watched and helped out with a magic show!

‘I had fun with Aidan and Caitlin and Cody and Mrs Clark.  My favourite ride was the train.’  Cameron

‘I like the wheel and water slide.’  Jayden

‘A water slide! That was my favourite.’  Lewis

‘I loved the water slide!’  David

‘My favourite ride was the tunnel water slide with Liam.’  Joe

‘I got on the bus to go to M&D’s.  I liked having fun at M&D’s.’  Yolie

On Thursday we covered the walls in the sensory room with paper and painted a giant picture of M&D’s theme park!  Class 1 have also been talking about the things that we could see, smell, hear, taste and touch at the theme park.  Next week we are going to write sensory poems about our fun day out!  The adults are so pleased that everyone had a great time!

The 5 Senses

Class 1 have been learning about the 5 senses.  We worked with Mrs Nicol to create an information poster about the 5 senses.  We enjoy singing ‘The 5 Senses’ song to remind us what the 5 senses are.  It goes like this:

This is the way we see things, hear things, smell things.  This is the way we taste things and this is the way we touch.

We had fun creating detailed drawings of our eyes and Cameron and Jayden labelled the different parts of the eye.

We like to spend time in our class dark den.  We can’t see a thing in there unless there is some light!  We have enjoyed observing the colourful lights in our dark den this week as they change colour between red, blue, green, yellow and white!  We compared our eyes to the eyes of an owl and learned that unlike us, owls are great at seeing in the dark!  They have big round eyes which help them to find food in the dark.  Jayden pointed out to the class that owls have symmetrical faces!  We made feathery owl masks and are going to wear them next week as we learn more about how nocturnal animals use their senses to find food.

We enoyed watching this clip in class, why not have a look and see if you can work out which of the 5 senses these animals are using to hunt for food.

Mr Berginis: I was very impressed with the imagination and creativity shown by the class in writing this week. Myself and Mrs Waddell really enjoyed reading them.

Fairytale Fun!

On Monday we received a letter from the dragon who lives in Fairyland.  Dennis the Dragon told us that he bumped into a little girl with blonde hair in the woods.  She was crying and mumbling something about porridge.  Dennis asked us to find out about the little girl.  So, this week we have been completing lots of activities about Goldilocks. This includes writing a sorry letter to the three bears, sequencing pictures to tell the story and sorting objects by size.  We are hoping to receive another letter from the dragon next week!

 Have a lovely long weekend,

From Miss Bollen and P1b

P3/2 Needs or Wants Activity

In groups, using a set of 20 cards, we had to decide which was a need or want.   These included things like, clothes in the latest style, a tv, fast food, playgrounds and recreation, clean water and money to spend as you like.

We each had a role in our group, such as resource manager, reporter or time keeper.

We had an interesting discussion at the end about where some of the cards belonged because not all groups had the same ideas.

Below are some photos of us working together in our groups.

What p2g have been learning this week in school

Here are some of the things we have been learning in p2g this week:

“We have been learning to add doubles in Maths. I liked the song for adding 6-10 because I didn’t know those ones.” Rhuan

“In PE we were learning to work in teams.” Annabelle

“We were learning to say hello in French.” Baillie

“We have learned how to use ipads.” Alfie, Emma and Ava

“I learned what a terraced house is.” Demi Leigh

An exciting week for P5m

This week we have been on a cruise ship adventure. We made passports, designed and named our ships and then set sail. Our first port was Bible World where we took part in all sorts of interactive activities to learn more about this interesting book. We played deck games with Mr Jeffries, held an on board talent show and even had a cinema trip. We all relaxed during Mocktail Hour with our delicious drink creations!

Next stop – Lowport. We can’t wait!

Class 2

Class 2 had fun looking at photographs of our learning this week. On Thursday we went swimming . It was our first swimming this term. Aiden said “It was great”. Friday was party day. It was a party for Miss Robertsons’ birthday. Guess what age she is now. Class 2 had fun playing party games. We were happy when our friends won musical chairs and musical statues. Dylan said “I don’t mind not winning, party games are still fun.”

Class 3 prepare for M and Ds :)

We are very excited about our upcoming trip to M&Ds, only 5 days to go!

Geordie – I am very excited because we are going to M&Ds. I said ‘Wooohoooo!’ when we heard the news!

Josh – I have been before but I can’t really remember. My mum says I really enjoyed the caterpillar ride.

Cary – I felt really excited when I heard about the trip!

On Wednesday afternoon we got together with everyone in  classes 1 and 2 to learn more about M&Ds.

We looked at pictures of different rides on the Smart board. We found out that some rides are for little children. Some are for people of any height. There are some other rides that  you have to be quite tall to go on. We all found out what height we are so that we can find the rides that suit us.

Josh – We got measured on the height chart that was painted on the wall upstairs.

Cary – I was the tallest in my group.

Geordie – I want to go on the really fast rollercoaster rides that are for teenagers. I’m the sort of person that likes awesome stuff.

In the rainbow room we had lots of fun pretending to go on different rides. Here we are on the roller coaster!

Josh – We built a log flume and a roller coaster.

Cary – I made a pirate ship which you could wobble about. It was great!

We learned that the big wheel can also be called a Ferris wheel. We made pictures of a Ferris wheel. The wheel part of it spun round just like the real big wheel does!

Cary – I loved it and I drew lots of people in the gondolas. Some gondalas had 1 person, some had 2 and some had whole families!

We also thought about some of the things we would see, hear, touch, smell and taste on our trip. Our senses will be very busy indeed!

Look out for our blog next week when we will tell you all about our real trip to M&Ds!

The funniest week ever in P4g :-)

This week in maths we have been learning about division and times tables. We learned that multiplication and division are linked by rearranging the three numbers around.

In story writing we have been learning about punctuation. This included full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, speech marks, commas and new one we learned was ellipsis. We used ellipsis in our writing to create suspense and make our stories exciting. We had to write an imaginative story about ‘The Invention’ to link in with our class novel ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. Some inventions we invented was time machines, food that made people shrink and a multi-gadget rocket… (ellipsis haha!)

We also would like to thank Mrs Jamieson for coming into our class with her Knex boxes and setting us a challenge to make a useful invention for the future. It was lots of fun! Next time she comes in she is going to bring motor so our creations can have moving parts.

This week’s special person is Geo because:

  • He is the Greatest Friend ever!
  • He always listens to the teacher
  • He is funny!
  • He is a fantastic best friend (Scott)
  • He is very good a playing Minecraft on his tablet

  • He is awesome
  • He is supportive
  • He is a lovely friend
  • He is helpful
  • He is a very good friend
  • He is super
  • He is a good big brother!

How time flies in P1l

The first full week in primary 1 and no one fell asleep!  P1l have had a super first full week in school and everyone has coped really well.

The children have started to learn their sounds and this week we looked at m and c paying particular attention to how they make the sound with their mouth.  We use our lips for m so it is a red sound and the back of our mouth for c so it is yellow.

On Tuesday we looked at why we come to school and the children worked really well together thinking by themselves, then with a partner and finally sharing their ideas.  Lots of ideas came through but my two favourites were:

‘Becasue we get too big for Nursery so they have to build a school.’

‘So we can learn to read so that when we have our own boys and girls we can read them stories.’

On Wednesday we had Mrs Spence and we made some monsters for our ‘Monster Maths’ and owls for our ‘Tree of Knowledge.

On Thursday it was a big day getting our first reading book and l have heard a few very proud children talking about their reading and great claims of “I can read now”.

A wee reminder that reading books and reading records are to come to school everyday please.

Have a great weekend.

Bye Mrs Leamy

P1b’s Learning Log

This week in Primary One we have been exploring the sounds ‘m’ and ‘c’.  We have been learning where these sounds are made in our mouths.  We associate ‘m’ with the colour red because we make that sound with our lips.  ‘C’ is yellow because it comes from our throat and we need a torch to see!  We have been practising forming these letters in lots of different ways.  This includes using paint, plasticine, pipe cleaners and whiteboards.

We have enjoyed eating our lunch in the dinner and have quickly learned the routine.  Here are some of the things we have learned:

 James-eat all your lunch.

Jaime-Lee- After you have eaten all of your lunch you can go out to play.

Mia- You need to line up to get a coloured band.

Denholm-You get coloured trays and you can eat a packed lunch there too.

First Full Week in Primary 1m!

We have enjoyed our first full week in school.  Our buddies have helped us with school dinners in the lunch hall, and we have enjoyed playing outside afterwards.

In PE, we have worn our full gym kits for the first time, which was great fun!

We have been busy decorating our classroom.  We have created large versions of some of the school staff, including Mr Welsh, and have created lots of colourful school uniforms.

We have learned the sounds m and c and practised their associated actions and songs.  We have also looked at where we make these sounds in our mouths.   We have practised writing these letters and some of us have used them to make some small words.

We have written the numbers 4, 5 and 6 using lots of different materials.

Lots of parents came to visit our classroom on Wednesday to see how busy we’ve been, and to find out more about learning in Primary One.  We enjoyed showing them our classroom.  🙂

News from P3h

Well we are shocked to learn there are so many children who don’t go to school around the world.  BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT WE NEED 1.7 MILLION TEACHERS IN THE WORLD, we learnt this when we were looking at our Rights and Actions.  We have been looking at our rights:

*the right to a good education

*health care

*food and water

*play and rest

We have also been discussion when it is important to think about our actions like listening and sharing.

Bye!
