Class 1 Love Music

On Wednesday, Class 1 had a very special visit from Miss Thompson.  Miss Thompson is a music therapist and she brought a big box of musical instruments with her.  To start, Miss Thompson sang the hello song.

David – I was singing with Miss Thompson. Singing “Going to the river”. Lewis and David were singing. The music stopped, shhhhh.

She asked all of the boys and girls to choose an instrument to play along with her.

Yolie – I played the cymbal.  It made a big loud noise.  I covered my ears.

Jayden – I pretended I was playing a guitar. I played loud.

Joe – I liked the cymbals best. They make a big noise.

Next Miss Thompson gave everyone a chime and a beater.  We had to listen very carefully to know when to hit the beater and when to stop.

Lewis – Everyone stops when Miss Thompson says ‘Stop’ and everyone plays when Miss Thompson says ‘Go’.

Gabriel – I said “Who is the boss?”. Should we listen to Miss Thompson or the boys and girls? I liked playing the tambourine. Sometimes we asked people what to do.

Miss Thompson is going to bring her instruments to class 1 every week.

nǐ hǎo from p7m! (hello!)

7m have had a busy second week and have been working very hard.

In our topic, we used Atlases to find out where China is in the world. We have continued to learn some Mandarin greetings. The class also loved looking at Manga art  and we started to create our own. Aidan also really enjoyed learning about Chinese musical instruments and listening to them in music.

Adam, Cameron, Euan, Nathan, Jason, Amanda, Liam, Cheryl and Luke all really enjoyed maths this week. We have focused on learning our tables and learning mental math strategies to improve our scores. We also revised the names and properties of 3D shapes.

We all loved working with our P1 buddies this week. Primary 1 had listened to the story ‘Rainbow Fish’ and we helped them to created their own Rainbow Fish.

Luke was our Pupil of the Week because he was very kind and friendly with his P1 Buddy Owen.

We wish  good luck to Melissa for her Swimming Gala this weekend, Findley for his golf competition and Euan for his football match. Also a congratulations to Alex came third in the World Championships for street dance last week.

Welcome to P1h!

Although some of us are missing nursery we all think school is good and fun!

We have learned so much already and Miss Holwill is so impressed with us.  We are beginning to learn our sounds.  We can all say ‘m’ and ‘c’ and read I, the, he and she.  When we are learning our sounds we all practice writing them and do lots of fun activities like colouring, painting and sticking.  In maths we have started to write numbers and count.  Our favourite game is when we pretend to be green bottles accidently falling of the wall.

We have been meeting lots of new people and learning about how they help us in school.  We have made pictures of some of these people to remind us.  Some really important people in school are our buddies.  They have been playing with us at play time and helping us at lunch.  We also have a lesson with them each week.  This week we made peg people of ourselves.

We haven’t even started to tell you about drama, PE or Spanish.

Miss Holwill thinks we better have a long lie tomorrow 🙂

Talk to you soon!

This week in p2bg

This week in p2bg we have been learning new things. With Miss Boyle we have been learning about 3D shapes and trying to find some 3D shapes in pictures and the environment. We have also been learning about our senses and have learned about how our eyes and ears work.

With Mrs Gallagher we have been learning about Celebrations. We talked about weddings and our experience of weddings.  Teighan, Alfie and Gemma knew lots about weddings and gave us lots of information about their experiences. We learned that there is a special book called a register that people sign when they get married and that people who are getting married exchange rings. Lots of people mentioned the fancy cars you sometimes see at weddings and there were lots of drawings of limousines.

We were delighted to get our first fireball with Mr Jefferies and hope to achieve another one next week too.

Well done to Alfie who is our pupil of the week for always trying to write words beside his drawings, Mrs Gallagher was very impressed with this.

P3b’s Learning Log

This week we continued to explore the story of the Rainbow Fish. We learned more about the character of the rainbow fish through hot seating. This is when someone takes on the role of a character and people ask him/her questions. We asked very good questions such as, ‘how did you feel when you were alone?’ We then discussed how the rainbow fish changed from the beginning of the story to the end and recorded adjetives to describe him.

For story writing, we learned more about bullet points. We learned that we sometimes use bullet points when writing a list. We then used bullet points to writw a list of instructions on how to look after a pet fish.

We also revised quarter to and quarter past times on an analogue clock. Next week we are going to make our own clocks for our class display.

Bye for now,

Miss Bollen and P3b

Scientists and Nobles in P5m

What a week we’ve had in P5m! (A week in our class runs from Wednesday to Tuesday – look out for Blog updates on a Wednesday afternoon.) We have already learned so much in our Science project and we all loved watching the explosive reaction when we added Mentos to a bottle of Diet Coke. We have also travelled back in time over 700 years to one of the bloodiest times in Scottish history. Transformed into Scottish noblemen, we know we will have many dangerous but exciting adventures ahead of us.

From the Blog Post Box:

This week I learned…

…how to find 10 more in Maths.                                Louisa

…to join th and ch in Handwriting.           Ella

…how to play the djembe drum and the doum-doum drum in Music – AWESOME!           Jessie

…how to draw a portrait of myself in Art.             Geo

…in our Science lesson that atoms are squashed together in a solid, they move altogether in a liquid and in a gas they float about. I’ve learned so much this week that I think my brain will explode!               Louise

P3e

We have had a SUPER first week in primary 3! Our classroom has a superhero theme so we have been busy creating our own superheroes. We designed their outfit and used our drawing and cutting skills to make paper heroes. We also used paint and chalk to create a superhero skyline. In writing we were using describing words to describe how our superheroes looked and what powers they had. Some of our superheroes had laser eyes, could turn invisible and could change into animals!

We have also been thinking about the rules for our classroom. We explored the rights of every child and discussed how by making the right choices we could make sure that every child in our class and school had these rights. We wrote down the rights that we have in school and what we actions we will take. We know that we all have a right to an education so we need to make sure that we work hard at all time and listen carefully. We also have a right to be safe. We need to be kind to others and play nicely in the playground.

In maths we have been revising adding to 20 and we loved playing ‘Harry Potter Maths’. We like challenging each other to woek out the answer faster.

We have enjoyed getting to know each other as some of us have not been in the same class before. We are enjoying playing in our new playground and we really like playing in the garden.

We hope you have a super weekend!

Hello from P3b

We have had a great first week back at school! Everyone is feeling refreshed and excited for the year ahead. 

In class, we have focused on friendship. Firstly, we discussed good qualities in a friend and used this to write a friendship recipe. Our recipes will help us be good friends to others.
Here is an example:
• 2 Cups of trust.
• 1 bag of laughter.
• 3 Jugs of smiles.
• 1 dash of kindness.
• 100 bags of love.
Stir altogether and you will have the perfect friend! (By Lucy)

We also watched an online version of the Rainbow Fish which is all about friendship and sharing. We worked with partners to identify the six main points in the story. We drew the six main events and wrote a sentence to match.

In art this week, we thought about animals that represent us or we would want to be. We then drew portraits of this animal and painted them. Lastly we made frames for our work- they look amazing and we had great fun completing this task!

Have a fantastic weekend,
Miss Bollen and P3b

P1b’s Learning Log

We have had another busy week in P1b. On Tuesday all of Primary 1 went to the local park. When we got there, we had a biscuit and completed a mini beast quiz. We then worked in partners to go on a nature scavenger hunt. Here are some of the things that we found:
‘We found toadstools.’ – Isabella
‘I found a slug.’- Guy
‘We saw a butterfly.’ – Gemma
‘I found a snail.’- Euan
‘I found a moth on a tree.’- Amy
After our hunt, we went to the park and got to play on everything. We enjoyed having fun in the sun with our friends 

On Wednesday we made a garden diorama with our buddies. First, we cut and folded paper to make the diorama then we used different materials inside to make garden features. We made trees, swings, ponds, flowers and people for our garden. They look really effective. Have a look at some of or work below.

One more week to go!

This has been a very busy week again. Here’s a quick snap shot.

Some of us went along to the Queens Baton Relay on Sunday. We took part in different events and won medals.

We learnt about using speech marks using sandwiches?!

We learned how to find out the perimeter of an object.

We found out about the common wealth games.

We created posters for countries playing in the World Cup.

We found out about the different Viking Gods that Vikings believed in.

We are watching an animated series about Viking Gods and it is really funny.

We watched a video about how to make butter then we actually made butter in our teams.

Today we got to taste the butter we made and took the extra butter home.

Enjoy your weekend.

Class 2 are in a spin!

Class 2 have learned lots about tornados this week.

Aiden said “we have learned tornados don’t come to Scotland.  They go to other countries like Brazil, USA and Italy”.  Do you know any other countries that experience tornados?

We watched tornado video clips on Brainpop.  Cody thought Moby being sooked up by the tornado was funny.

We made tornado pictures and then wrote stories about a tornado coming.  Caitlin wrote about her friends being hurt by a tornado.  Aiden’s story was about hiding from a tornado in a basement.

We made a tornado in Class 2 using a big net and cutting long paper.  We had to spin round fast.  Caitlin liked being in it.

P2e

We can’t believe we are almost at the end of primary 2! It was a year ago today that we all first met in primary 2. We met our new teachers today and are very excited for primary 3.

This we were learning about extreme weather. In our homework we were asked to research a type of extreme weather. Some people did an excellent job and found out some really interesting facts. We watched videos of tornadoes and twisters. They look very scary! We created our own tornado pictures using chalk. They look fantastic.

We have been learning about poetry. We like poems that rhyme. We decided to write our own poem as a class. We all wanted to share it with you.

We love learning in primary two,

all about animals that live in the zoo.

Lions are very fierce and scary,

Monkeys are cheeky and really hairy.

Elephants are very strong and big,

Warthogs are a smelly kind of pig.

Snakes are very long and tickly,

Porcupines are really prickly.
