It has been another busy week in P6s! This week we had a visit from the SSPCA where we had a workshop on ‘Wildlife Welfare’. We learned loads of new facts about animals, got to know more about the SSPCA’s job and learned what we should do if we come across an injured animal.

In Maths and Numeracy we have been continuing to learn about time. This week we have been focussing on calculating durations of time and reading digital time which we are going to keep on practising at home and in school. We have also been learning more about Space and have done some imaginary writing where we wrote letters pretending we were going on a mission to space.

On Thursday we went to visit our buddies where we helped them to make a bowl for the Three Little Bears with papier mache. It was really messy but we had a great time and love spending time helping the P1s.

Mrs Stutt would like to thank everyone who made it along to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ on Wednesday. It was great to see so many people and lovely to meet you all.

p6h

Thank you to all those who came along to our ‘Meet The Teacher Evening’.  It was great to see so many Parents/Carers , and it was lovely to meet you all. Mrs Haddifon.

P6H are thoroughly enjoying our Space topic.  We researched lots of facts and wrote letters as Astronauts leaving on a space mission.  We also used wax resistancy methods to create space scenes, and created some fantastic pictures.  As we go forward with our space mission we are going to build a six foot model of a Space Shuttle, looking at all the different parts it has.  So if you have any spare newspapers we would really appreciate you sending them in for our papier mache.

We also had our first try at Countdown Spelling this week, which went well.  We all enjoyed it and not even Mrs Haddifon’s dancing put us off!

Bye for now from P1l

Someone’s eaten all of P1w’s porridge!

This week we have been learning about numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3 and counting within these numbers. We have all been impressing Miss Wilson very much!

We have all been learning about the letters and sounds s and p. We have been making wonderful displays in the class with our work.

We have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and discussing the story. We created WANTED posters for Goldilocks as we felt that she did some naughty things! We thought it was quite naughty that Goldilocks went into the cottage when she didn’t even know who lived there and we had a discussion about how to stay safe.

With our buddies we tried using paper mache and balloons to make bowls for porridge to go in! We really like working with our buddies and are looking forward to seeing how our bowls turn out.

Farrah moved up to Step 3 this week! Well done, Farrah 🙂

Class 1 went on Safari

On Wednesday, Class 1, 2 and 3 went to Blairdrummond Safari Park.  It was a special Variety Club event for children from all over Scotland. First we went on the bus.  The bus travelled around the safari park so we could see the big animals.  We were glad we were safe on the bus as some of the animals were very big.

Next we got off the bus and had our lunch.  It was a lovely sunny day so we had a picnic outside.

After lunch we played in the play park.

Yolie – I went on the big big slide with Miss Barrie.  It was faster.  I was laughing.  It was too funny.

Joe – I had fun. The slide is best. Good fun climbing up the hill.

Gabriel – The big slide went bumpy, bumpy, faster, faster.

Next we went to the Sea Lion show.  The Sea Lions were very clever.

Lewis – The Sea Lions went up the bridge and they jumped in the pool.  The water splashed.

Jayden – The sea lions made a loud noise. It was very noisy. A blanket was hanging up tall in the ceiling. The sea lion jumped to bite it.

After the Sea Lion show everyone was very keen to go on the rides.  There were lots of different rides for us to go on and they were all free!  There were dodgems, spinning tea cups, a dragon rollercoaster, big bumpy slides, a bouncy castle and a carousel.

David – Bouncing on the bouncy castle. David and Miss Barrie went down the slide.

We were so tired after all of the fun.  Some of us nearly fell asleep on the bus.

Class 3 went Wild!

Caitlin: We went to the Safari Park. We went on rides and looked at animals. We went on a bus. I really enjoyed the big slide. It went so fast.

Josh:I really enjoyed seeing the animals. I saw Mongoose, Meerkats, Penguins, Tigers, Lions and Sea Lions.

Geordie:At the Safari Park I enjoyed the dodgems. The Sea Lion Show was good. The Dragon Ride was fast.

Callum:The Safari Park was so much fun. It is hard to choose what I enjoyed most. I think though it has to be the Sea Lion Show. The Sea Lions did great tricks.

Cary:The Seal Lion Show at the Safari Park was great. The adventure play park was awesome. I had so much fun.

Hola from P1h

We have had a busy week again.  These are our highlights…..

We made Three Bear Porridge in class this week.  Like Mummy Bear we used a special stick called a spurtle to make the porridge.  We know Mummy Bear makes Daddy Bear’s porridge salty, Baby Bear’s plain and adds honey to her bowl, so we did too. We were like Goldilocks and tried all three bowls, but we liked Mummy Bear’s porridge the best.  We have also been making our own porridge bowls out of paper mache, we are looking forward to decorating them.

We have been enjoying making lots of friends as it is fun playing with them.  Some of our favourite things are dressing up, cars, building dinosaurs, jigsaws and making up our own stories in the library.  This is the first week we brought in toys from home on a Friday we were all very careful and looked after our own toys and our friends.  We had fun sharing.  Well done P1!

Bye for now!

P.S. Mums, dads, aunties etc please leave us a comment too!

P3e

We have had a great week in P3 as we have a new classmate. Dadirayi has joined our class this week and is already making lots of new friends!

This week we started our new topic all about the community of Bathgate. We began by looking at our home community. We discussed the different jobs in the house and who helped out by doing these jobs.We talked about families and all the efferent kinds of family you can have. We drew a picture of our family. We had to think about the size of all the different people in our family so that we were not as tall as our parents! We also painted pictured of our houses as we are going to create a scene of our community. We were also writing about our families and were focusing on using capital letters and full stops. Dadirayi and James worked really hard on their story and went to show Miss Henderson their work!

We have also been learning more about 2D shapes this week. We learned 3 new shapes this week. We learned about a pentagon which we think looks like a house. We know that this shape has 5 sides. We learned about a hexagon which has 6 sides and an octagon which has 8 sides. We think of an octopus to help us remember that shape! We worked with a partner to create these shapes using art straws.

We have been working in groups a lot of this week and we had to discuss what you should do when working in a group. We reflected on this in our review jotters today. We know that when working in a group we should listen to everyone and respect their ideas. We should also be sensible and take part to the fullest. We are going to keep working on our group work skills because, as Grace said, ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’.

We did not have time for our awards today but will we find out our Class Dojo and Table of the Week winners on Monday.

See you next week!

Class 3 Enjoyed being back at Balbardie!

Callum: I really enjoyed swimming. I was diving under water. I got caught in lots of rain on the way back to school. It was not nice. Next week I will be having cake because it is Miss Robertson’s Birthday. I am going to the Safari Park too.

Cary: At Golden Time I am going to play Yougio against Nathan and Aiden with my special deck. I liked swimming in the water. The Cat and Mouse game at PE was fun. Miss Robertson’s Birthday is next week. We should make her a cake.

Catlin: I enjoyed swimming this week as it was the first week back after the summer holidays. It will be Miss Robertson’s birthday party next Friday.

Geordie: I have not had a good week. I have been tired. I liked Music with Mrs Innes. Playing the Jembis was fun. I am looking forward to the Safari Park next week.

Josh: I’ve had a really good week. Swimming was good. The Safari Park will be fun.

Maths

We have been looking back at what we have learned about how to measure things. We used different no-standard units of measure some of the things around the classroom. We used pencils, rulers, people and our hands to measure things.

LATC/Writing

We have been learning about the death of the Sheriff of Lanark this week. We used the story as a basis for writing a cartoon strip. We had to decide which part of the story to draw in each of the six frames. Then we learned about the difference between caption boxes and speech bubbles. Next we discussed with a partner which would be best to add into each of the frames. We now have a nice wall display in class showing our work!

HWB

In P.E. we have been learning about teambuilding through a variety of games and activities.

Comic Crazy in 5m

This week we have been learning about comic strips. We explored a variety of comics and picked out the main features. Then it was time to have a go ourselves!

First we read a short story about how William Wallace became an outlaw. Then we had to decide how to divide the story into six frames. After that, through the use of pictures, speech bubbles, thought bubbles, captions and sound effects, we had to recreate the story. It was quite tricky but we were very proud of our completed comic strips!

P7b and P1h are buddies!

One of the things p7b have enjoyed most about p7 so far is being able to help our p1 buddies from Miss Holwill’s class. We’ve been helping them out at lunchtimes to get used to the school system and we’ve been spending Buddy Time helping them with their learning. Last week we helped them design peg people which looked like themselves and this week we helped them with some painting as they made bears for their Goldilocks and the Three Bears display. Check out some pictures below…

P4g

Welcome to our Blog. Every week we will update you with what we have been up to

In our first two weeks we have been looking at our rights, responsibilities and actions. Some of the rights we have looked at are our right to a name, to a nationality,  to be heard, to our opinion,  to an education, best available healthcare, nutritious food and our right to basic needs.

We have been looking at the water cycle and how water is available and used around the world. We have done some experiments including cleaning dirty water, making clouds and creating the water cycle. You can see these in the classroom. We also looked at how water moves and used paint and chalk to create giant water drops which are now dripping from a giant tap!

For maths we are looking at addition and developing our  skills and also learning about dividing things or people onto groups depending on their characteristics.

It has been a very busy two weeks and we have really enjoyed them.

More from P4g later.

School Choir

The senior choir, primary 6 and primary 7, begins on Friday 6th September. Pupils have been given letters seeking permission for attendance, also whether they are walking home or being collected from school. It’s important that I have this information before Friday.
I’m very much looking forward to working with the choir members!

The junior choir, primary 4 and primary 5 pupils, begins after the October holiday – Tuesday 28th October. Those who have shown an interest in being part of this choir were issued with letters on Friday of last week.

Welcome to our blog from P1l

Hello from P1l

It is very exciting doing the first blog post for P1l. We hope lots of people read it and leave us comments.

It is hard to believe that P1 have only been at school for two weeks as everyone has settled into school life so well. This was a big week as we stayed all day and had lunch at school too. This week we started to learn our sounds and these are going to help us learn to read and write. We have learned two already and they were ‘m’ and ‘c’. We have been looking at where the sounds comes from in our mouth to help us remember what the sound is. Here are some pictures of us working on our sound activities.

We have been learning about our school and we looked at our uniforms and why we wear them. We have some great pictures of us in our uniform up on the wall in our classroom.

On Wednesday we watched the story of the Rainbow Fish. It helped us to think about how we make friends and feel happy. We then got together with our buddies and made our own Rainbow Fish.

Mrs Leamy is very proud of how hard everyone has been working already – well done to you all.

P3e

We have been very friendly this week in primary 3e. We have been talking about what makes a good friend. We listened to the story of the Rainbow Fish and discussed how sharing is a good quality to have in a friend. We also read one of our favourite stories called Enemy Pie. We learned that sometimes we might think we do not like someone but if we spend time with them they could end up being a good friend. We then decided to make friendship pies for one of our friends. We put in nice and tasty ingredients and we also put in some things which make a good friend. For example, some of us put in hugs, kindness and helpfulness. We wrote recipes for friendship pies and we all remembered to use good openers like first, then and next.

Here is a recipe for an Apple Friendship Pie by Ellis:

1. First you need to make a pie base and put a dash of apple sweeteners.

2. Next grate yummy apples and get strawberries and some hot melted marshmallows and scooshy cream.

3. Grate a chocolate bar over the top and cut an apple over the chocolate and sprinkle berries.

4. After a pour a little of apple water and a hint of sugar and salt and jam.

5. Finally put a lump of ice cream on and cross it over.

We have been working on our handwriting this week. We have new writing jotters with smaller lines. We have been trying our best to make sure the letters are the right size and are sitting on the line.

We also found out that our new topic is going to be all about Our Community. We are excited to learn more about Bathgate and we are really interested to learn about Bathgate’s history.

Awards:

Pupil of the Week: Keira Mallin

Class Dojo: Karys Brown
