P4m Viking assembly!

We have had so much fun this week preparing for our assembly!! Thank you so much to those who helped and were able to come along to see it. Here are some photos from the whole experience for anyone who was unable to come. We hope ‘Do you want to be a Viking?’ will remain stuck in everyone heads as much as it is in ours! 🙂  100_1334 100_1333 100_1316 100_1317 100_1318 100_1311 100_1306 100_1308 100_1314 100_1303 100_1301

Our favourite lessons this week have been: presenting our Viking power points, problem solving in maths and creating Mother’s Day gifts! 100_1235100_1244 100_1246 100_1247 100_1248 100_1249 100_1250 100_1252

We have now heard most of our groups, with a few left to hear next week! We worked really hard on these and some groups even created songs and quiz’s to make them extra special. Each group completed a peer assessment sheet for each presentation including a best part of the presentation with some advice on how to improve it next time.

P4m 2.3.15

This week we have been very busy researching and creating Viking power point presentations. In groups we have researched different areas of the Vikings and next week we will present our work to the rest of the class.

Mrs Ghafoor has challenged her maths class to test out the board games that they created last week and to decide which ones were the best. The class really enjoyed playing these games because they were their own creations- we are still to decide which games are the best ones!  Miss Mowat’s maths class had great fun practicing their times tables using a netbook game called table mountain.  We are continuing to really enjoy learning about symmetry- we used mirrors to help us find a line of symmetry in 2d shapes and some of us were challenged to find more than one line of symmetry!

We are continuing to enjoy NYCOS on Tuesdays and have learned so many musical activities and games so far. Wednesday’s bake sale was great because we got to  buy and eat cakes and help raise money for the p6 Olivia show.

Lots of us enjoyed practicing our spelling words in different ways this week- especially using the playdough to make the words. For world book day we wrote book reviews about our favorite books and we also enjoyed writing about our trip to the Museum last week. Miss Mowat and Mrs Clark are so impressed with how hard P4m have worked this week! We hope you all have a great weekend 🙂

P4m have been learning about symmetry for the past few weeks: we have learned that cutting a shape in half helps us to decide whether or not it is symmetrical. We have also learned how to print a symmetrical shape with paint. We enjoyed finding things around us that are symmetrical like butterflies and even people! We had a great time at the National Museum on Thursday: we had lots of fun and learned so much about the Vikings! Pictures from the trip to follow, watch this space!

Another busy week!
This week we focussed on our freeze frames. Mrs Ghafoor took pictures of our freeze frames and we then turned them into comics by adding in scenes and speech bubbles. They look really good.
In maths we have been practising ‘Jazz Hands’ to learn our times tables – they do work! We also played different games on the netbooks to help us with learning our times tables.
In Cool in School we have been learning about last chance warnings and how to use them effectively. We have also been learning about a cool stance – this shows how we should stand when we respond.
We were also learning about ‘Kosher’ and ‘Treifah’ foods. These are foods that Jews will and won’t eat. They have lots of different rules about what and when they can eat the foods. We impressed Mrs Ghafoor by creating a menu for a Jewish friend. We made sure that all food was ‘Kosher’ by following the rules. Did you know that Jews won’t eat a cheeseburger?! That’s because it has cheese and dairy in the same meal which is not allowed.
Enjoy your weekend.

This week we have been looking at comics and reenacting them into freeze frames. This is quite tricky as we have to show what is happening in the scene as well as using body and facial language. Our ‘Cool in School’ knowledge has been helping us to express emotion in this task. In ‘Cool in School’ we are learning that we don’t always need to go straight to an adult but can try some strategies first. We did lots of role play in this. When we tried an ‘aggressive’ response we found this to be quite hard as we kept adding in please!! Mrs. Ghafoor said we were the nicest ‘bullies’ she had ever met!
In maths we’ve been learning our eight times table through different games.
Music with Mr. Gregory – our NYCOS Music instructor was cancelled this week but we did get a very special visit from Mathew Fitt. Mathew Fitt is a children’s author who writes books in Scots. He inspired us to make our own Scots Monster and taught us the names of different body parts – in Scots of course! Do you know what ‘wallies’and ‘knaps’ are?!
We also had a special treat from Miss Mowat’s class. They sang a song called ‘Leezie Lyndsay’and taught us the chorus. It was really fun!
Enjoy your weekend.

We’ve had a busy few weeks!

We’ve had a look at poetry over the last few weeks. We practiced our poems and had 4 class winners. They were Megan, Zoe, Sophie and Jennie. Our class winner was Zoe and the school winner was also Zoe. We all loved the twist that Zoe had at the end of  ‘A Red, Red Rose’ by Robert Burns. Well done for your effort girls!

In class we have been learning about different types of poems and have written acrostic poems, Scots poems and preposition poems. The preposition poem was a tricky poem to write because we weren’t writing in sentences!

In maths we have been learning how to multiply by 10 and 100 and revising multiplying by 2, 3, 4 & 5. We have also been learning about money and working out how much change we would get from the shopkeeper if we gave him ÂŁ1.

In topic we researched Aberdeen and made information leaflets for things to do, see and places to eat. We found that in Dundee, there is a street called ‘Bash Street’ named from the comic ‘Beano’ and there are large statues of comic characters in the city centre.

Bye for now

P4m 19.1.15

We have had another great week in P4m.Continuing on with our Scottish topic we learned the Scottish dance ‘Strip the Willow’ on Monday and presented our power points about famous Scottish people on Tuesday. We enjoyed our NYCOS workshop on Tuesday as well. We had a real treat on Wednesday with Mrs Jamieson. She brought in lots of different Scottish food for us to taste! The oatcakes with haggis, neeps and tatties disappeared very quickly!

We have been practicing our drama skills this week too.  We explored how to do freeze frames and spotlighting and are looking forward to using these skills next week when we act our our ‘Broons’ comic strip! Well done to the poetry competition winner- Katya! Some of the pictures show groups enjoying maths games and practicing emotional/improvisational freeze frames during drama. 100_1065 100_1068 100_1069

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

P4m W/B 12.1.15

This week P4m have been preparing power point presentations about famous Scottish people. We have been very lucky and been able to use the Net- books to do our research and to explore how to transfer all of our information onto a power point. We are looking forward to hearing all the groups present next week! Have a look at some pictures of us working together in our groups to get our presentations ready.

We have also been working hard to practice our Scottish poems for the Poetry competition. Well done to Katya, Jack and Skye for getting into the final. We will hear who the winner is next week.

To top off our very Scottish orientated week we had great fun learning and practicing the ‘Gay Gordon’s’ ceilidh dance in the classroom!

P4g

A very short week?!
In these two days we had so much to do!
We made a book to write Scots words in. We chose words which were funny, interesting or those which we didn’t know the meaning of. In maths we played different games, all related to what we have learnt about addition and subtraction.
We had our party on Monday and ours was the first party in the new hall. It was very exciting! We played different games and could have carried on longer but knew we had to have our party food before we went home.
Today we went to church and enjoyed the Nativity. Jennie, Zoe, Megan and Cody were the stars of P4g. Well done to everyone who took part!
We finished the day off with finishing off our Christmas cards, making angels for our Christmas trees and clearing our trays!!
Happy Holidays.

P4m 19.12.14

This week we have all really enjoyed writing the middle section of our stories ‘ The Christmas Elf’.

In Maths we have been learning to add 2 digit numbers to 3 digit numbers and some of us were challenged to add 3 digit numbers together. With Mrs Ghafoor in maths we were cutting out items from a catalogue and adding and subtracting them to find out the total amount or the change that we would get from a given amount.

We have also been learning about various famous Scottish people. We really enjoyed taking notes from a video about Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s life and using the net books in groups to research our own famous Scot.

Our Golden club members really enjoyed the first event on Friday and we are all very excited about the fun we will have at our Christmas party next week!

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

p4m 8.12.14

This week we have had fun making different Christmas crafts to decorate the classroom and have also made a Scots words clothing line.  Some of our favourite words that we could remember were troosers  and baffies!

We have also made some very artistic cards inspired by the Scottish artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

In maths we have been adding 2 digit numbers to 3 digit numbers- some of us found this quite a challenge at the start but are now starting to really enjoy it! With Mrs Ghafoor we have been subtracting  2digit numbers.

We have felt very Christmassy this week after our writing the beginning of our stories to’ The Christmas Elf’, eating our Christmas lunch and some of us have really enjoyed singing Christmas songs in choir. To top off the week we had great fun at the pantomime on Thursday!

P4m 24.11.14

P4m have had a great time in outdoor P.E practicing our scoring skills in handball games.

We have been using lots of different strategies to practice our 3 times table this week.  The most popular ones were playing snakes an ladder and pairs.

We have also been using different strategies to practice our spelling words- we have been learning that splitting a word up into its syllables helps us to remember how to spell it.

Continuing our Broon’s aroond Scotland topic, we have been researching and building various Scottish landmarks out of different materials. When these are finished they will be displayed with our map of Scotland.

We all wrote very exciting and imaginative middle sections of our Magic Door stories. We can’t wait to finish them next week! Well done to our star writers who will get a copy of their work home with them.

P4m: Imagine, Broons and Fayre

17th November

P4m have enjoyed being very imaginative in writing this week. We wrote the beginning of ‘The Magic Door’ and tried really hard to use as many adjectives as we could to describe what we imagined was behind the door. Fiona and Michelle were our star writers this week: they both produced extremely descriptive pieces of writing.

For our Broons aroond Scotland topic we were researching lots of different landmarks from Scottish cities. We really enjoyed being able to use the netbooks to find out the information we needed.

We have also made some lovely Christmas decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre- making them made us feel very festive and excited for the holiday season!

P4m

14th November

P4m have had a busy week! In Maths we have been working on learning different strategies for revising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Some of us have also been working on subtraction with Mrs Ghafoor.

We were lucky enough to get a special lesson with Miss Henderson who helped us to continue our learning in writing newspaper articles about the Handball Festival.

We have also been practicing some new activities in reading- the Book worms groups really enjoyed creating new titles for their reading books.

To culminate our Wallace’s Wacky inventions topic we presented our group inventions to the rest of the class. Our posters are looking great and are displayed proudly in the classroom!
