P2B

This week Primary 2b have been exploring the different Scottish clans and their traditional dress. We have looked at the various types of tartan used to make kilts and compared the different colours and styles. We then designed our own clan tartan by weaving paper. They look fantastic!

We also enjoyed creating Scottish Acrostic poems, thinking of words and sentences that began with the letters of the word SCOTLAND. Here are a few examples:

Elaine told us all about the three bridges.She was a civil engineer and had worked on the road design onto the new bridge,The Queensferry Crossing.

 

 

Our trip to The Forth bridges visitor centre-P3/2

On Tuesday we were so excited as we had our trip to The Forth Bridges Visitor Centre and The Rail bridge bistro for our lunch. We learned so much on our day out of school. We learned that Elaine who took us was a civil engineer. We learned that the final piece of the new bridge The Queensferry Crossing will be put in place this weekend,weather permitting ! We knew so much already and Elaine was extremely impressed with our knowledge and our team working skills.

Here are our comments:-

I liked learning about the new bridge called The Queensferry Crossing. I also liked learning about The road and rail bridges too-Eva

P2A

In our artwork this week we made magical Merida Castles and we used our knowledge of tone to make a super sunset backdrop.

We have been learning about halves and quarters and we have been representing this visually with our open ended maths challenge.

In writing this week we wrote scary stories about being lost in the dungeons!

In P.E this week we are busy trying to earn our fireball and we only need one to get!

We have been busy practising our words and songs for Caterpillar Boogie, the P2 show which is on Thursday 23rd March at 9.30.  Further details will follow.

This week has been a jumbled up week – and we have had lots of fun with Miss Holwill while Mrs Mansfield was off ill.

From Primary 2/1

(A note from Mrs Mansfield – Thank you for your understanding with homework being a day late this week.  I am now feeling a lot better and have had a fab few days with your children this week.  There were quite a lot of homework bags missing when I was sticking in the homework grids – can these please be returned on a Monday.  Homework this week includes preparing a 1 minute talk about family, all children should prepare this!  It could include family names, jobs, special memories, where you live etc.  We will hear these in class next week as part of a listening and talking progression.  I can’t wait to hear them!)

2B Scottish Projects and News

We have been working on a project at home. We could make something Scottish like a famous animal, some delicious food or a famous landmark like the Forth Rail Bridge. Everyone was very proud of their projects. Thank you to Mums and Dads and family members who helped us at home.

Other news from our class – In spelling we’ve been learning about ‘oo’ and different ways to make this sound in spelling, like blue, or tooth. There are lots of wobbly teeth in our class just now!

In French we are counting up to 20. We have a song that can help us to keep improving.

We have been very busy this week in class making our potions to help us with our potion writing. We made super invisibility potions, potions to make us jump to the moon and potions to turn us into dogs! We then wrote our instructions.

We learned about Robert Burns on Burns’ Day, where he was born, what he did and we had a Scottish quiz to help us remember.  We learned how to dance to the Dashing White Sergeant in class which we found a little bit tricky but fun!

In our maths work we have been learning time challenges and our time to beat the clock is now 31 seconds…a new record.

Scottish Knowledge P3/2

We have been learning lots of new facts about Scotland. We have all learned a Scottish poem and it was very difficult choosing 2 representatives for the final on Monday. Ross and Lily were our class reps.

We are really excited about our trip to the Forth Bridges visitor centre on Tuesday.

Lily,Katie,Sophie S.-We like dancing and singing to “Donald where’s your troosers?”

Nina,Ross,Jess,Niamh- We are learning about Nessie and we are writing a newspaper article about finding her

Archie- I like learning facts about Scotland.It is fun

Zara,Rory- We like dancing and singing to “The wee rid yo-yo”. It is a Scottish song

Harris- My Home Learning Challenge was Nessie, irn bru and shortbread

Sophie M. -My Home Learning Challenge was a castle

Eva- I liked being the first craw in the song ” Three craws”

Grace- I liked making my Home Learning Challenge. It was Edinburgh castle. I also brought in the book ” Greyfriars Bobby” to read in class

Florence- I can’t wait until our trip on Tuesday to The Forth Bridge Visitor Centre

P2A

As part of our Scottish topic we have been making Dioramas of Merida’s family.  We have included lots of background detail and made super characters.

We watched the story of ‘Brave’ and we really liked when the bear turned back into Eleanor!

In French this week, we have been practising how to say ‘Bon Appetit’ and learning about how to say the names of some fruit and vegetables and practising them in class.

We have also been busy designing a poster for recycling waste at The Centre and we are hoping that we will be successful 🙂

In drama we have been practising for our P2 show ‘Caterpillar Boogie’-more details to follow for our show.

In P.E we are very excited as we now have 4 Fireballs! We only need one more in order to be the P.E. teachers!!

My favourite part of this week-P3/2

We have been busy learning in The Learning Pit this week. We have been learning about Time in Practical Maths. We were also trying to do Mental Maths and do it speedy ! That was tricky .

We have been reciting our Scots poems and singing some Scots songs especially The rid yo yo.

Zara- I liked writing the story about Scottish animals this week. I wrote about the otter

Primary 2/1 Blog – Week Beginning 9.1.17

We have had a bonnie week in P2/1.

This week we started preparing for our assembly and so we have been learning lots about Scotland, Scottish history and Scots language.  Here are some of the things we have been learning:

Rio – I learned the word ‘ees’, it means eyes.

Regan – I liked saying the word bahookie, it sounds silly.

Cameron – I liked reading Room on the Broom, it taught me new words.

Emily – Making tartan at buddy time was lots of fun.

Ellie – I like to learn about all the different words.  My favourite word is lugs.

Rory – Bahookie is a Scots word for your bottom.  It made me laugh.

Breaghannon – I liked the story of Robert the Bruce.

Poppy – Our assembly is about Robert the Bruce.  He was a King.

Griffin – I liked the story about Robert the Bruce, it was good because he had a growth mindset at the end of the story.

Max – There are lots of different tartans because there were different clans.

Liam – A clan was a big family in Scotland.

Leah – I liked learning Scots language.  My favourite word is bahookie.

Millie – I like learning about Scottish words.

Jonah – I liked making Scots word posters for our assembly.

Leila – I like the songs for our assembly.

Marley – I like to learn about Scotland.  I learned about the spider story.

Keegan – I liked painting posters for the assembly too.

 

We can’t wait to share our learning with you next Friday (20th at 9.15am).  Please remember that we need something tartan/Scotland themed to wear for our assembly (can the ‘craws’ and the ‘spider’ please bring in a black t-shirt instead – Emily, Regan, Rory and Cameron)

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control our excursion to the Forth Bridges Visitor centre has been postponed until Tuesday 31st January 2017..We are so looking forward to our visit there.

Happy New Year from P2A!

We hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday 🙂 We have been busy thinking about what we could have as New Year Resolutions and we had a lot of great ideas… ‘Getting up earlier for school’, ‘trying to save up more pennies for holidays’,’ getting more sleep’…to name but a few 🙂

We have been busy writing our thank you to Santa letters and we had some lovely things to say, we haope Santa has a nice rest!

We have been busy improving our mental maths this week and adding and subtracting our numbers.

Last year I enjoyed exploding my volcano with my gran and this year I am  looking forward to going to Nina and Holly’s parties-Katie

 

Thank you for all my lovely presents. I loved opening them all on Christmas morning 🙂

We start this year preparing for our trip to the Forth Bridges Visitor Centre on Monday 16th January 2017…It will be a wonderful experience as 94% of the new bridge called The Queensferry Crossing is complete. We will be able to see all three bridges on our visit and learn about them all.

 

Good luck everyone preparing your Scots poem before the Competition on Monday 23rd January. We will practise them every day in class so lots of practise at home will be most helpful.

Primary 2/1 Blog – the Last Blog of 2016!!

We have enjoyed our short week in the lead up to the Christmas holidays and have been thinking lots about what Christmas means for other people.  We were talking about how not everyone celebrates Christmas in the same way and how lucky we are to be spending time with our families this festive season.

I think I am lucky this Christmas because:

Poppy – “I get to spend time with my family”

Griffin – “I get a tasty Christmas dinner that my mummy and daddy cook for me”

Breaghannon – “I get extra cuddles from my family”

Teigan – “I get to try new things, I like Breakfast with Santa the best”

Ellie – “People are kind and buy me presents”

Rory – “My mum and dad let me open presents in the middle of the day and I like doing that”

Emily – “Santa visits me and I spend time with my family”

Marley – “I get to make crafts with my mummy”

Liam – “I might get to see Santa, that would be lucky”

Keegan – “I get to spend time with all of my family”

Rio – “I get to see my dad”

Leila – “I like spending time with family, on Christmas Eve I can see my friends”

Jonah – “I have lots of brothers that love me”

Brandon – “I like spending time with my family and going to the cinema on Christmas Eve”

This week in our Christmas Around the World topic we looked at Japan and we learned how to make an origami Xmas tree.  It looked really tricky to do!

We made lovely moving Santa models and the boys from the 2/1 class joined us for this activity, we had lots of fun 🙂

We have been busy practising our mental maths this week and we are getting faster at our maths challenges 🙂
