P7b are stunned…

to discover that there are 57 million children in the world who don’t get to go to school!

Amber – I think it is quite upsetting because these children aren’t getting an education!

Rabeea – In India I saw loads of children who didn’t get to go to school and had to go to work instead. It was upsetting to see that happening.

Tom – I think it is sad because they’re not getting their right to education.

Callum – I think it is not fair because everyone has the right to education.

Assembly 6th September Child Protection and Rights

Today during assembly we have talked about keeping safe and our rights. It is important that you tell a trusted adult if you have a worry or concern. We looked at internet safety and keeping yourself safe online. We also spoke about our rights in school and in particular the right to education. Have you found the facts about the number of children currently not in school? Post your answer.

Colour fun in p2g

Last weej in our art lesson we learned about primary colours and secondary colours and we had fun mixing primary colours together to make secondary colours.

This week we learned about cool colours and warm colours. We used warm colours to create some sunset pictures. Some of our work looks really great. Next week we will be using cool colours to create some paintings and they will be displayed beside our sunset pictures.

P3/2 Friendships

P3/2 are looking at friendships this term. We are a new class and took some time to get to know one another. We made our own p3/2 classroom jigsaw to demonstrate how well we are beginning to fit together! This week we have been looking at what makes a friend. Everyone had some great suggestions and together we decided that we would like our friends to be kind, caring, helpful, funny, happy and there for us in the playground. What would you like in a friend?

Class 3 pupils become teachers

This week class 3 have been thinking about article 28 – the child’s right to an education.

Geordie – Children should have the right to go to school because they need to learn things like maths and computer to get a job.

Liam – I like school.

We thought about why we come to school and what life would be like if we didn’t come to school.  We watched a clip about a girl called Fatima who doesn’t go to school.  Where she lives you have to pay to go to school and her parents don’t have enough money for this.  We all thought this was very sad.

We also saw some clips about children who have no classroom and children who have to share their teacher with nearly 100 other children!  This got us thinking about our dream teacher.  We each designed a dream teacher.

Cary – I liked making my dream teacher.  I think all of the teachers at Balbardie Primary School are like my dream teacher.

Our favourite activity this week was sensory room.  This was turned into a classroom where the pupils were the teachers and the adults were the pupils.

Miss Waddell – I enjoyed being a pupil.  The teachers had good ideas and I learned very much from them.

Personal Targets for p2g

This week we learned about our right to an education. We learned that we are really lucky to be able to come to school as some children in other countries are not allowed to go to school and have to work instead. We heard the story of Aklima who lives in Bangladesh. Aklima wanted to go to school but spent her days scaveniging in rubbish dumps trying to find scraps to sell. We felt very sorry for Akilma and decided that even if there are things in school that we don’t enjoy doing that it is still much better than having to spend time on a rubbish dump each day.

Thinking about what we learn in school helped us to set some personal targets for this term. Here are some of our goals:

“To improve my reading.” Robyn

“To listen better.” James

To get better at number work.” Finn

“To get better at drawing.” Ava W

We will regularly review these targets to see if we are making the improvements we hope to.

Class 2

Class 2 are pleased to be back. It is nice to see our friends again and to continue our learning. It is not surprising Mrs Clark and Miss Robertson are so tired as we have managed to do so much in just 4 days! We went to the 1st Get Together of the session on Wednesday. After that we had PE with Mr Jeffries.  At PE we had to try hard not to fall in the jungle or dessert island as we skipped, hopped and ran around the PE hall. We will get PE each Wednesday. Swimming was not on this week so we learned to play croquet, had a turn on the Trim Trail, then played WII sports. We are enjoying encouraging each other to do our best. We have designed and made a new display for the Golden Wall to record our positive behavior.

Welcome Back from P7M

Primary 7m have had a great first week back. We have worked together to create a class charter. The pupils worked very hard to create a portrait of themselves that included their favourite things. The class worked well together on a group challenge.
The class voted and decided they wanted to learn about and compare America for their Term 1 topic.

Reminder: PE will be on Tuesday and Wednesday

Have a great weekend!

Learning about our rights in p2g

It has been lovely to welcome all the new children into primary 2 this week. We have been getting used to our new classroom and routines and making some new friends.

This week we have been learning about our rights.  So far we have learned that we have the following rights:

1. To play and rest

2. To have adults listen to us

3. To be kept safe from harm

4. To have a name and an identity.

Next week we will think about the actions we have  to display that will go alongside these rights and we will create a class charter.

*** Reminder – on Thursdays we have gym and Golden Time ***

Attendance Award Winner

Congratulations to Murray McKenna (P7b) who was this session’s Primary 7 Attendance Award winner.  On Monday 24th June 2013, Murray attended an award ceremony at Howden Park Centre where he was presented with a certificate and book token for his excellent 98.7% attendance record from P1-7 at Balbardie.  A fantastic achievement.  Well done, Murray.

Another busy week in Class 3

Class 3 have been very busy this week taking part in various Health and Fitness activities.

On Monday we had a Silver Circle time were we moved around three different stations.

GeordieIn class 1 we learned that everyone has the right to a healthy lifestyle. Everyone should have healthy food and clean water, a house  and medicine if they are ill.

JoshWe practised races in the hall.  For the egg and spoon race we used a potato!

CaryI loved playing on the wii in class 3.

On Tuesday we played Boccia. Before we tried it we watched a clip on the Smartboard which showed us how to play it. It is kind of like bowls. You have to throw a little ball to start with. Then everyone throws their own ball to see who can get nearest to the little ball.

Wednesday was Sports Day. This is Nathan running in one of the P5 races.

Afterwards we had our very own Class 1, 2 and 3 award ceremony. We had worked hard to join in and watch the  races.

Josh getting his medal.

Josh – I liked my medal. It made me feel good. Sports Day was really good and I liked the egg and spoon race.

Another exciting thing that happened on Wednesday was that Cary worked with Mr Marsden to transform the sensory room into an Angry Birds haven! He then invited the younger children in to explore  and play with the activities that he had set up.

Cary – I put up lights and  used the sparkle ball to make stars. I filmed the little ones with the iPad.

Mr Marsden and the class 3 adults were very impressed with what Cary had created.

Cary – The best thing about it was seeing the wee ones have fun.  I feel proud and I think my mum will be proud.

Our last Health and Fitness activity this week was a very special healthy snack.

Aidan I thought that the fruit skewers were really tasty and I really enjoyed having a cheese toasted sandwich.

Thanks very much to Mrs White and class 2 for preparing it for us :).

Health and Fitness activities in P2lg

This week we have had a variety of activities relating to health and fitness.

We talked about the importance of eating a balanced diet and learned about some nurtients we get from different foods. We talked about trying to eat 5 portions of fruit  and vegetables every day.  We looked at art work by an Italian artist called Guiseppe Arcimboldo. He had created some very funny portraits using fruit, vegetables and flowers. We created our own fruity faces pictures. Here are Ross and Caitlin with their pictures:

We thought about what fitness activity we had enjoyed most this week, here is what some of us had to say:

Lauryn “I enjoyed boccia, golf, rounders and playground games.”

Noah Y “I enjoyed golf. “

Kate “I enjoyed curling.”

Lennox “I enjoyed boccia.”

We also had lots of fun at sports day and were very proud of Megan, Sophie, Colin and Caitlin who were all awarded medals.

We are looking forward to more fitness fun next week.

Primary 2/1

We have had great fun so far in health and fitness fortnight…

On Monday we played a game called Boccia which Rowan pointed out is very like French Boules which she plays at the caravan.  We tried very hard to throw our coloured ball as close as we could to the white jack ball.

In the afternoon Primary 7 childrentaught us some new team games in the playground and we had lots of fun.  Thank you to Sian, Katie, Aisha, Lyndsay, Abbie and Aqsa for teaching us! Our favourite game was with the parachute.

Today we all took part in different races for sports day and Olivia did a grteat job cheering us all on. Thanks to any parents or grandparents who were able to come along and support us.  We hope you had fun too.

Fitness Fortnight Fun!

P3lm have been thoroughly enjoying learning the sport Boccia and enjoyed a class competition. Well done Liam, who took to the sport easily and won the competition. Big thanks to Mrs Waddel and Mrs White who treated our class to  “Ready Steady Cook”. We all enjoyed watching the demonstration and loved the Blueberry and Lemon Passion, Fruit Kebabs, Tuna, Spring Onion and Cucumber wraps and Italian Sandwich. Yum!

Mary’s Meals Success

Congratulations to Abbie Megaughin and Lyndsay Mitchell from Primary 7b who have been working with Mrs Jamieson to make up backpacks to send to Mary’s Meals. They have collected enough equipment to make up 64 backpacks and one additional box of goods which will be sent to children in Africa to help them to go to school. On Wednesday 12th June 2013, Mary’s Meals collected the bags and thanked the girls and Mrs Jamieson for their efforts. Thanks to Antonia and Lauren who handed over the back packs to Mary’s Meals on behalf of Abbie and Lyndsay. We are very proud of their achievement and would like to thank all of the families who donated items and backpacks for a very worthwhile cause.
