We have had an amazing week.

This week we were in Italy and found interesting facts for Italy, we visited Milan and looked at the fashion capital and the handbags for the new season. Based on this, we designed and created our own handbags using a net for a cuboid because the spring 2014 bags were cuboid in shape.

We also learnt how to make pizza. We watched a clip on YOUTUBE then chose and chopped our ingredients to add to our pizza. We had PE straight after so Mrs Jamieson kindly cooked them for us and we got them just as we were ready to go home. They were delicious!

We also had music with Miss Doolan and learnt all about beats in music. We were quite good at keeping the beat. Miss Doolan will work with us for the next few weeks.

To finish off our week, we had parents and grandparents come in. We got the chance to show them what we do in class. We had coordinates connect 4, big maths; parents were under pressure to complete the big maths facts in timed conditions, researching facts for any country around the world, spelling  and VCOP activities. We were better than the adults as we bet them in almost all activities!

Enjoy your weekend.

We had a short but fun week.

We started our new topic of around the world in 80 days.

We are going to study this through the eBook written by Michael Palin. It should be great fun as long as the internet doesn’t go down again! We started our journey in London, Pall Mall. We discovered that Pall Mall was actually a game played in the 17th century; it was a cross between croquet and golf. We made rules up for the game and some of us had a chance to play this in the corridor outside the classroom. The rest of us will get a chance later on. From London we went through France and then into Switzerland. We found that the Swiss alps are here and one of the mountains is called the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn is shaped like a square based pyramid and ‘Banner’ clouds form at the top. We made our own Matterhorn from ‘nets’. Mr Jeffries has climbed the mountains around the Matterhorn and was able to recognise the mountains from the features of the Matterhorn.

We have also started to learn to ‘Be cool in school’ and to recognise the three responses that we can give to any situation.

Enjoy your weekend.

This week we wrote our newspaper reports about the loch Ness monster and also looked at Aberdeen. Aberdeen has a famous amusement park called ‘Cordona’ and we got to design a ride for it. We had to describe what the ride was.

We also did freeze frame in drama, Mrs Ghafoor took pictures and we are going to use these for creating our own personal comic strips.

Here are some of our thoughts:

David: We learned about Aberdeen and it’s amusement park.

Zoe: The Pentagons have a maths challenge; to have the fastest times table recall. (If you get an answer within 3 seconds you know your times tables!)

Iona: We’ve had fun with our Coordinates grid. We play connect 4 but have to write the coordinates before we can put the counters down.

Evie: French club is doing great as we are learning lots of new French words.

William: We made posters for ‘Day for Change 2014’ which told about Angita and the cyclone. We all made sure we helped by bringing in our £1.

Enjoy your weekend.

Our week flew by so quickly – it’s Monday again!

We researched interesting places to visit in Edinburgh and completed our posters which will tempt tourists to come and visit Edinburgh. We then used this knowledge to write postcards as if we were on holiday in Edinburgh! We also looked at how newspapers are set as we’ll be writing our own news article this week.

In maths we are still busy learning our maths facts and we are getting better and quicker. Today we got to play on our giant, floor grid. We played in teams and had to ‘connect 4’ to win. It was great fun.

In art we created a sponge sea backdrop for our silhouetted Nessie. They look really cool.

Bye for now.

Another jam packed week!

This week we finished off writing our Scots poems about animals. They wur really guid!  We  learnt about Robert Burns; who he was and why he is so important. We looked at poems that he wrote as well as other Scots poems. We all had a chance to present our poems to the rest of the class and Mrs Ghafoor had a really tough choice picking three of the best to go forward to the Burns Poetry Final. On Friday we learnt about the Burns supper and learnt that this is held all over the world but it follows the same layout everywhere!

Our class finalists were Kari Nixon, Christopher Drysdale and James Cochrane.

James Cochrane was the overall Winner in P4b.

Well done to all who tried – the standard was very high!

We ended our week by holding our own Burns Supper. We listened to Scottish music and tried Haggis, neeps an’ tatties. Some of us loved the haggis and some of us were a ‘wee bit feared’! We recited Scots poetry and finished with”‘Three Craws’. We heard this in the P2 assembly. P2 did a fantastic job with their singing – even when technology let them down!  A great assembly P2.

Thank you very much to Mrs White, Mrs Murray and Mrs Meek for making our supper and serving us this special dish!

Enjoy your weekend.

Another busy week for us.

This week we looked at where and how grid references are used.  We also had a look at ‘Billy Bug’which helped us with grid references. Our 3D UK map was completed – it was very tricky painting the mountains and land around it because the outlines had become faded when making it 3D. It’s now complete and ready to use! In art we used blending to create different shades of colour for our houses – we are getting quite good at mixing and  blending to create different shades of colours.

We are learning our Big Maths facts and have already shown an improvement in our results! We need to practice our number bonds and times tables to get better. We played bingo using numbers in French and that was lots of fun.

We have been looking at the Synagogue and why it is an important place for people of the Jewish faith. We liked the ’10 Commandments’ that they have as they are simple rules to follow – just like our Golden Rules.

We have worked very hard at home and at school to remember our Scots poems – three winners from the class will go on to the finals on Monday. We have also been looking at Scots words and what they mean. We will use this in our writing next week.

Next week: P.E will be on Thursday afternoon instead of Monday afternoon.

Enjoy your weekend.

Happy New Year!

We are rearing to go again!

This week we have been busy looking at 3D maps and are in the process of creating a 3D UK map. It took patience and teamwork!

We have also been working hard in maths learning our times tables and subtraction facts. These will help us in our Big Maths Beat That tests.

We have also started looking at who Robert Burns was and why he is important to Scots as part of our Scotland Topic. We painted a portrait of Robert Burns using skills taught by Mrs Laidlaw. We were only allowed black and white paint and had to mix and blend to create other shades of grey. They look very good. We hope Mrs Laidlaw is as impressed as Mrs Ghafoor is by our effort.

Have a great weekend.

We have had another fun week in school.

Monday was our school party and we had lots of different games and yummy food.

Tuesday was a hard work day as we had spelling, reading, maths and topic work to do! This was also our last day with Mrs Kelly. Her placement finished and we know we will miss her as she helped us a lot with our work.

On Wednesday we practiced our new spelling words. In French we were learning about the different words for Christmas things. We also made Christmas cards for Mrs Kelly.

Today, Thursday, we worked on our posters for the Commonwealth Games with Mr. Jefferies, completed a survey on how we felt, and continued with our tricky surprise Christmas cards. In the afternoon, we went to the Regal Theatre to watch Aladdin. It was awesome. We got back just in time for packing our bags to go home!

Tomorrow is the Golden Club Event!

We do keep busy!

Another busy week in and out of class!

On Saturday it was the Christmas Fayre and we had lots of fun there. The craft items that we made, pom poms, bracelets and reindeer cards, all sold out!

We have been practising our songs for the church service – they are so tricky! We are getting better though!

We have started our new topic – The Broons aroond Scotland. It has been really interesting looking at maps and how they can show different types of information.

We have also been looking at plays and how they are written. We practised in our groups and then performed a scene from the play for everyone in the class. We gave positive comments and then gave suggestions on how to improve their performance for next time. It was great fun!

See you next week.

This has been a challenging but fun week in P4b.

In maths we were learning about capacity; how much something can hold. We had great fun measuring out and working out if different containers held about a litre, less than a litre or more than a liitre. We did not spill any water!

We have started looking at how plays are structured and used highlighters to pick out different parts of a play.

In French we held a carousel and every body spoke French! We had to include saying hello/goodbye, our name and asking somebody else their name and also to ask someone how they were and say how we were feeling. It was great fun.

Apart from this we had a big challenge – we made pom poms for the Fayre. Mrs Ghafoor thought we would be finished in 20 minutes but it was far trickier and actually took a lot longer!  We have also made bracelets and cards but they were so good, most of us have already bought our own items. We do have a selection of fab items left so come along tomorrow to buy them!

The Fayre will be on from 10am – 12pm. See you there!

Our Rocket is called Blazing Blooms. We use it to help us understand what we are reading.

Book Amnesty

Calling all students, (and parents!)

Could you please look through your house for any school books which have been brought home and have not yet been returned! Whether the books have been brought home recently or perhaps even years ago?! No questions asked.

Please hand in books to P4b (Mrs Ghafoor) or at office. Thank you in advance.

Another busy week in P4b.

This week we looked at the advertising aspects of chocolate. We made slogans for our chocolate bars and then wrote adverts for them. We had to include what they looked like, smelt like and tasted like. (Tasted amazing, we know that!) Mrs Ghafoor was very impressed with the slogans that we came up with. We also made up questions from information given to us about chocolate. We had great fun creating and answering the questions in our groups and getting points for our groups. We have a quiz wall outside the classroom if you would like to answer some of the questions that we created. (Don’t worry, information is there also!)

We have been looking at the Commonwealth Games and have started designing posters for this. We also enjoyed our visit to the library. We now have our Blazing Blooms rocket to help us with our leaning and questioning. We voted for the best name, although Mrs. Ghafoor was ready to cheat if we didn’t vote for her favourite name for the rocket! Luckily our votes matched and Mrs. Ghafoor didn’t have to resort to cheating.

Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you for your votes! As you can see it was a tricky decision, however the winning entry was the ‘Crispy Crunch Bite’, as decided by the Board of Directors.

Come and see all the wrappers we designed!

Today we made the chocolate bars and were allowed to modify the ingredients slightly. We worked cooperatively as teams and made the decisions together. The chocolate bars look delicious!

We have also been learning about different types of questions and how to use them effectively. We can now identify three types of questions. They are simple questions, true/false questions and multiple choice questions.

Enjoy your week.

P4b

This week we have been busy with our invention of chocolate topic.

We looked at maths problems and tried to work out different combinations that we could get using three ingredients.  We also worked out how much it would cost to buy the different combinations of ingredients!

We investigated how to make a Cherry Choo  Chocolate Bar, discussed the process of making the bar and then had to teach the ‘Idiot Alien’ how to make the chocolate bar. The problem was that the Alien would only do exactly what you told him to. It was very tricky to make sure no steps were missed out and the Alien understood how to make the chocolate bar.

We now have an overall winner of the chocolate bar wrapper design. Why you don’t you vote and tell us which wrapper you like?

Coco Crisp Bar
Choco Bite
Crispy Crunch
Chocolate Crunch Bite
Orange Crispy Bite

We also had great fun when Callum came to give us a taster session on Karate. He showed us how to count in Japanese as well as some basic moves.

Enjoy your weekend!

In P4b we have had an exciting week with looking at the invention of chocolate and it’s history. We have worked very hard in our new teams to invent a new chocolate bar using different ingredients. Next week we will judge the wrappers that we made for the chocolate bars.

Have a great weekend!
