Our Curriculum Approach at Jackton Nursery
At Jackton Nursery, we are committed to delivering a well-balanced and integrated curriculum that supports each child’s holistic development. We follow the principles of South Lanarkshire Council’s Together We Can and We Will and Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) to ensure learning is meaningful, engaging, and responsive to children’s interests.
Curriculum for Children Aged 3–5 Years
For children aged 3 to 5, we follow the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE)—Scotland’s national curriculum for children aged 3 to 18. The CfE is designed to help every child become:
A Successful Learner
A Confident Individual
A Responsible Citizen
An Effective Contributor
Children explore and develop across eight key curricular areas:
Literacy and English
Numeracy and Mathematics
Health and Wellbeing
Expressive Arts
Sciences
Technologies
Social Studies
Religious and Moral Education
Our planning is based on children’s interests, ensuring that learning takes place in rich, meaningful contexts.
Curriculum for Children Aged 2–3 Years
In our 2–3-year-old room, we follow South Lanarkshire Council’s guidance document, Together We Can and We Will. This curriculum framework supports children through play-based learning, focusing on three key aspects:
Health and Wellbeing
Communication
Creativity
We also incorporate the principles of Pre-Birth to Three, ensuring a nurturing, holistic approach that promotes children’s social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
Supporting Your Child’s Learning
Our practitioners work closely with each child to set individual age- and stage-appropriate learning targets. Progress is regularly observed and shared with you through ongoing communication and your child’s online Learning Journal.
