18th May

I hope everyone had a great weekend and you are all ready for another week of home learning! Thank you for the photos you have been sending in, I love to see your happy faces and know that you are well.

This is a shorter week as Friday is a holiday.   I will put up the normal suggested activities, so you can choose which ones to complete and leave those which you do not have time for. As always they are suggestions and should fit around your household and its circumstances.

This weeks suggested activities are:

Literacy

The reading and writing activities this week are related to a non fiction text ‘Spring for the Birds’

The reading task asks you to think about what birds do in spring time. It mentions nests being made, if you have a garden you may see birds busy collecting materials for nests or maybe you have birds nesting in your garden!

Reading Task

The writing task is about  thinking of some possible captions for the birds in the text.

Writing Task

This weeks speaking and listening task relates to the story of ‘The Ugly Duckling’ . Enjoy the story telling video and then talk about the story.  If you take a walk near a pond, maybe you could look out for some swans and ducks  – are there any nests?

Speaking and Listening Task

Also try to read a story every day.  The links to free stories to listen to and/or read can be found in the ‘Free Books’ tab.  If you have completed one of the activities above then  it is not necessary to follow up the story with additional questions – it is also important to read/listen for enjoyment.

If you wish to follow up a story with a discussion then the ‘Prompt cards’ can be used.  They can be found in the reading booklet issued and are also available in the reading tab above.

  • Complete page 10  from the phonics booklet. I have included photos of these below for anyone without the home learning pack.

  • Revise phonemes ‘g’ and ‘l ’. Please make sure your child can correctly form theses letters.
  • Continue to practise the common words. Use the tab above for ideas on ways of practising them.  Also have ago at writing short sentences using the common words.

Maths and Numeracy Activities

  • Complete page 283 of the money booklet

  • Complete page 78 of the Numbers to 20 booklet

  • Complete page 55 of the Addition and Subtraction booklet

These are additional games and activities which can be completed.  Don’t feel you need to be printing any of the numbers, ask your child to make number cards.  Also the first activity has a game which can also be drawn on paper or if you have an outside space, chalked onto the ground.

I will put up this weeks check in station up on Tuesday but feel free to check in at a time which is convenient for you.

I love reading about  what you have been up to.

Remember the activities above are suggestions and you should only  complete  activities which you and your family have time for.  Also when possible keep activities practical as play is still important and develops a wealth of skills.

Please continue to send in photos, I love seeing what you’ve all been up to.  You can send in photos to the address below and I’ll post them on our blog in the ‘gallery’. Remember our blog is public so please don’t send photos that have children in them. Names will not be matched with photos. This email address will be used by several classes, so please use the subject line ‘Room 1 Mrs Chan’ in every message you send to make sure I don’t miss any.
