It was lovely to have a visit from Chloe Tallack and Bookbug. The children were so engaged and were fantastic at joining in with all the songs, rhymes and stories. They were really good at remembering actions and signing along.
Every day the children are practising the letters and phonic sounds. The more fun they have the keener they are to practice and improve their letter recognition and formations.
Below are some of the fun ways they paractise these at school.
The children have been learning about symmetry, they enjoyed using the big mirrors to look at reflections and then went on to do lots of little activities using various resources.
Every day the children have a little practice of using money to pay for items. They ‘pay’ for snack after they have washed hands at the little ‘pop-up’ shop.
They are learning the value of different coins and beginning to use different combinations of coins to pay a set amount.
The children have been learning about the sound of the letter p. Today as one of their activities they were using pretty petals to make perfume.
There were lots of opportunities to chat about other things beginning with the ‘p’ sound while they were making beautiful smelling perfumes to go in their little bottles and containers. Also lots of colours, textures, smells and different parts of the flower to discuss too.
The Children began Drawing Club this week and what a great time they have had. They are immersed in vocabulary and mark making to create drawings following a story. It is so much fun and covers such a wide range of skills.
This story was about Smelly Peter and the children have practiced the letter ‘p’ to make their planet even smellier! There is a hidden code, a number, on each picture to stop the smell getting out into the classroom. They have also drawn lots and lots of peas (the letter ‘o’, and circles) to feed Peter and the aliens.
Every book has opportunities for mark making, maths and lots of conversations. They can’t wait to show you their drawings.
The children printed patterns with repeated colours and shapes.
We also played clapping and movement pattern games which were great for focus and concentration.
The school has lots of fantastic resources which are great for making patterns. The children worked really well in pairs and rotated around lots of different activities.
We also went outside and found patterns in the environment, bricks, slabs and leaves. They collected some stones, leaves, petals and sticks and create their own patterns with these.
The children have enjoyed learning a few phonic sounds and the letter formations to go with them. They practice this in lots of different ways. There is a story, action and song to go with each sound and also some games on the big whiteboard.
They have been practicing their formations in different ways eg. in sand, with shaving foam and on different types of whiteboards.
They also get the opportunity to hear and say lots of words beginning with those sounds. Here the children are finding snakes and spiders in the sticky, slimy spaghetti, when they were learning the ‘s’ sound.
The children loved making ants and apples with the plasticine and talking about the different body parts of the insects.
They have loved ‘making tea’ when learning the ‘t’ sound. And there have been some fun games to play too.
The children have been practicing formations and having fun learning about numbers.
They listened to the story about Butterfly 3 and practiced cutting and sticking to make their own collages.
The children did a great job making the peacocks to go with the Feathery 4 story. They had to listen to and follow lots of instructions.
Many of the children knew the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and were soon joining in with the repetitive aspects of the story.
They then had to work in pairs to build a bridge to get the goats across the river. It was great to see the children chatting to each other and getting the bridges to join together.
There were also goats to make using craft materials and trolls to paint in some bright colours.
The children loved listening to the story about Splat the Cat’s first day at school.
Their paintings are absolutely fabulous and are already up on the classroom wall.
