Curriculum Overview: Term 2_

Literacy and English

Pupils will:

  • Read and share a wide of range books, extending vocabulary.
  • Develop good reading group habits – listening to others, turn taking, predicting and summarising text.
  • Continue to learn the alphabet sounds and begin to sound out words. (P1)
  • Learn high frequency and tricky words. (P2)
  • Listen for and predict rhyming words in spoken language.
  • Create nonsense rhymes.
  • Continue to practice correct formation of letters.

 

Numeracy and Maths

Pupils will:

  • Build on number knowledge to 20 (P1) and 100 (P2).
  • Develop language to describe the mass of common objects.
  • Estimate and measure weight with non-standard units (P1), 1 kilogram and half kilogram (P2)
  • Collect information to create a bar graph and interpret results.
  • Develop language of position, direction and movement through games.
  • Program a sequence of directions into a programmable toy.

 

Health and Wellbeing

Pupils will:

  • Talk about the qualities of a good friend, valuing similarities and differences.
  • Celebrate what makes each class member unique.
  • Find out about the role of medicines for keeping healthy and the importance being careful with medicines.
  • Develop co-ordination and fluency of movement in P.E. circuit sessions.

 

Topic

Develop knowledge and understanding of:

  • Natural and Man-made materials.
  • Consider what it means to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose materials.
  • Develop own interests through play and investigation.

 

Planned Trips or Visitors

Maria Leask will be visiting to teach traditional Shetland dance.
