The Treasure Map

Some of the boys found a strange cylinder object in the story jungle tree.  Inside was a rolled up piece of paper..  There was an address written on the outside.  We found out that it was a map.  After studying the map and lots of discussion we decided that it was a treasure map.

Autumn

We went on an autumn walk, looking at what is happening to the bushes and trees around the school.  Lots of leaves were on the ground.  Later we found out that deciduous trees lose their leaves because there is not enough sunlight and water for them to make food over the winter.  We collected a few for the class to study and did a clean up as so many gather outside the door.

So far this term…..

Earlier this term primary 1/2 enjoyed Hallowe’en.  There were different activities to do in class.  Together they listened to lots of Winnie the Witch stories on the cd player and made a spooky castle.

Play Day

Today was Play Day.  Pupils are allowed to bring a toy to school.  They get to visit the other classes and play with toys there.   P1-2 said they really enjoyed dancing to ‘Just Dance’, playing with the older pupils and seeing what the other rooms are like.

Teamwork

Here is the class playing listening games, working together to identify sounds.  They are learning valuable skills in turn taking, communicating with each other as well as being part of an effective team.

Teamwork, teamwork 1,2,3

I help you and you help me!

Two heads are better than one

We’ll work together

To get the job done!

Literacy

Primary One is learning the letters of the alphabet and the corresponding sounds they make.  Songs, stories and actions are helping them to learn each one.  They are practising letter formation as well.  Good job primary one!

Literacy

We have read lots of books this term.  We take turns to read a page, looking at the pictures and talk about the setting, characters and what is happening.  This way we learn new words, relate events to our own lives and predict what is going to happen next.

Primary Two picked their favourite books.

What a Busy Term!

Primary 1/2 has had a successful, busy term.

In August we welcomed our new primary one pupils who, together with primary two, have worked hard at learning our class routines.  They have steadily improved their listening skills – for information, instruction and listening to each other. (Well most of the time!)  They have worked well together, displaying effective teamwork  which is encouraging for the remainder of our school year.  I am impressed with their good ideas for play areas and the many ways they extend and build on their learning.
