Roald Dahl Day and our school trip

This week we had a Roald Dahl day. We dressed up as characters from the books and had lots of fun in the library. Some of the activities were a Roald Dahl inspired treasure hunt, there was a snozzcumber stew where we had to fish for 6 counters while blindfolded and we had 30 seconds and there was also a Roald Dahl book quiz. We also made Roald Dahl inspired drinks. It was lots of fun!

We also went on a school trip to the observatory in Lerwick  and the Sound gospel hall. We learned they had to set of a weather balloon at 12am  and again at 12pm. It cost £80 per balloon, so that’s £160 a day which means they spend £58400 a year. At the sound gospel hall we learned a bit about a different stories in the Bible at each station and then do a quiz about what we had learned. It was also lots of fun!

A taste of Thailand

Catherine’s parents have been helping us in school this morning to make some delicious Thai food.  Making the food was great fun and the verdict on the taste …… Awesome! We also learned a few Thai words  Khobkhun Ka! Thank you so much, we had a wonderful time and learned a lot.

Aith JHS Day of Action – a snapshot of progress

You can actually make anything out of anything as long as you try hard and are positive” Liam P4.

I think he perfectly sums up our busy day. Massive thanks to the RSPB, our hardworking volunteers, Early Years, Primary and Secondary pupils who all worked together to improve the outdoor environment around the school – what a difference a day makes!

Primary 3 being teachers!

Today, primary 2 were learning about division for the first time. After spending some time discussing it as a class, every P2 paired up with two P3s who showed them how to do division using cubes. The P3s were fantastic at explaining and helping their classmates figure out the workbook page too. I’m very proud of how well everyone managed to listen to each other. It’s great to have experts in the class when you’re learning a new skill, P2 are very lucky!

Spring Task Force

Our end of term Task Force afternoon was a great success with all Primary pupils enjoying their Spring craft making.  Mrs Scott works hard to make sure we have lovely things to make and working in our teams means we can all help each other.

Our display is bright and colourful and will give us something beautiful to come back

to after the Easter holidays.

P2 trip to the Aith Shop!

Today P2 and Erland had the chance to visit the Aith shop to put what they’ve been learning about money into practice. Miss Murray gave them all post-it notes with a price on it, and they had to match this to a price they found in the shop. Miss Murray took our toy money with them to practice finding the right amount too. They even had the chance to use real money when they bought sugar and bananas for the school! Well done guys!

Chinese Calligraphy

Primary 4/5/6 really enjoyed learning about the art of Chinese calligraphy with Wenting today.

.

We found out that some very famous Western artists like Matisse and Picasso said aspects of their work had been influenced by Chinese calligraphy.  Picasso was also reputed to say that if he had been born in China he would have been a calligrapher rather than a painter.

We used special paper which needed only water on the brush to write – we had to take the pictures quickly though before the writing disappeared!
