SPORTS RELIEF DAY IN PRIMARY 1

What a busy day we’ve had in Primary 1.  Lots of people came wearing their pyjamas for Sports Relief and also brought money to buy cakes and give donations.  We started the day with 4 laps of the school along with all the primary and secondary pupils.

Afterwards, as a treat, we had hot chocolate.

Some of us bought cakes from the cake stall.

We then enjoyed watching the 2018 Sports Relief song and we also watched a video about where some of the money raised by Sports Relief goes.

These are some of the things we learned about Daniel;

“Daniel lives in Ghana……he is 10 years old……he has to work 8 hours a day……..he has to go down in a deep, dangerous hole to find gold…….he doesn’t wear any shoes or gloves or hard hat……he has to get money for his family to help get food, medicine and let him go to school…….he only goes to school some days…….he is so happy to go to school.”

Arlene came in with a letter to Paddington all the way from Peru.  It was from his Aunt Lucy.  She said she was really missing him and had sent him a ticket to get home.  We thought about it really carefully and decided that we had to let him go.  He leaves Shetland next Friday.

Finally, it was Cari’s birthday today and she chose 2 bakers to help make a chocolate cake.  It was yummy!

Have a good weekend everyone.

P2/3 Viking Diaries

Throughout our topic, we have been keeping Viking diaries to demonstrate our learning. At the start of the term, we all created Viking characters, and every time we learn something new about Vikings, we write a diary entry about it! So far we have discussed leaving home, travelling in a long ship, living in a longhouse and today we wrote about our Viking jobs! We have been following our writing targets, and when we finish, we self-assess our writing using traffic lights. We have also been drawing pictures to go with our writing, and decorated the covers to make them look like Viking diaries!

Horrible Histories with Martin Brown

When I heard that Martin Brown was coming in to see us I was  very excited! I really enjoy reading the Horrible History books and I think that the illustrations really compliment the book. I like the style of his drawings, they really inspire me. I love to draw cartoons and I really enjoyed it when he showed  us some of his drawing techniques. He was really good at getting your attention when he was explaining something. I really, really liked listening to what he was saying and I would love to meet him again.

Martin Brown was funny and he is a talented cartoon artist. He told us how to draw a horse, he said, “If you don’t keep drawing a lot then your horse will look like a sausage.”

I really enjoyed the event. I loved listening to all the horrible facts and doing the fun activities. Martin Brown made the event really fun and enjoyable to listen to. I learned lots from the lesson like how Mary Queen of Scots gave the axeman a gift before her execution. I also learned a lot about drawing such as how to draw a cartoon horse. Thank you very much for coming Martin!

I really enjoyed Martin Brown coming to the school, he was very funny and he is a very good drawer. He showed us that even if you don’t draw realistically it doesn’t mean you’re not a good drawer. Callum McLean P7

I thought Martin was funny, cool and just plain AWESOME! He is oh so good at drawing and he is not boring and I love the Horrible Histories. My favourite one is Edinburgh so keep up the good work Martin! Shay Polson P5

Aith walk

For the social studies project we are doing with Mrs Mouat, we went for  walk around Aith to find out information. We had to find out places to work, relax and interesting places to visit. We visited Michael’s Wood and the lifeboat station and some people asked Ray and Betty Ferrie and Hylton Henry questions. In our pairs we had to make a presentations with the photos and information when we got back. We really enjoyed the trip out.  By Sophie Bain
