Getting outdoors with primary languages

Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT) is hosting workshops for pre-service and in-service primary teachers in May and June 2025 that are free, in person and very interactive.

In the Getting outdoors with primary languages workshops, we will consider how languages feature within an Outdoor Learning agenda. We will explore connections to Learning for Sustainability, discussing how this area can be implemented through an interdisciplinary approach within an outdoor context. Together we will try out some practical activities that will set you up for a multilingual 30 Days Wild in June.

Paediatric First Aid – Upcoming Dates

These courses are only for names first aiders in ELC settings.

The courses are run with a waiting list so will so as zero capacity, but staff should add their name to the waiting list. The Early Years Team will check those signed up are eligible for a place and approve places.

Only people due to renew in the next 6 month should book a place any other will not be approved

 

Insight Webinar Series

During May and June, in collaboration with Education Scotland, I will be delivering a series of six hour-long webinars (with a seventh “debrief” session) designed to upskill participants in the use of Insight.

The content of the course will be targeted at senior school leadership and those with a whole school raising attainment role.  Local Authority secondary attainment leads are also very welcome to attend.

Childhood Practice student information events

Are you ready for the next step in your professional learning journey? Join us to learn more about the University of Glasgow’s BA Childhood Practice. Spaces are available to start in August 2025.

 

We will be hosting two Childhood Practice student information events in the coming weeks – please join us on Wednesday 6 May at an online event between 6pm and 7pm, or come to our on campus event in the University of Glasgow’s St Andrew’s Building on 7 May between 5 and 7 pm.

 

The BA Childhood Practice Programme is designed for those working in day care services for children enabling students to meet SCCC requirements for lead practitioner.

 

We hope you can join us to hear about the programme and meet the team and ask any questions you may have.

 

  • The programme encourages reflective practice, professional growth and leadership development.

 

  • You will engage in a vibrant mix of face to face and live online seminars, complemented by self study guides and interactive online spaces.  Our approach emphasises active participation, both individually and collaboratively, to develop your knowledge and skills and expand your professional networks, all supported by an encouraging team of lecturers and tutors.

 

  • Our part time twilight sessions run from 18:30 – 20:30, designed to fit in with your busy working lives

Health Care Training

The School Nursing Team are going to provide an information session in each cluster. This will cover the information from the modules on SBLearn – Asthma, Anaphylaxis and Epilepsy.

Unfortunately there will not be an input from the diabetic team. It will still be a requirement that the staff attending complete the modules online prior to this session as the team will provide additional support and answer any queries which staff may have.

12 September 2025 – Kingsland Primary School (1.30pm – 2.30pm)

Spaces can be booked through Business World. Private & Voluntary Nurseries or Childminders are welcome to join these sessions.

Emergency First Aid – 2025/26

Next session each cluster will be hosting an Emergency First Aid session. The dates confirmed so far are confirmed below. These courses will be added to Business World (course title – Paediatric & Emergency First Aid – Education Only) but if you already have a cohort in mind for your cluster please contact CLPL@scotborders.gov.uk direct with names and employee numbers asap.

PLEASE NOTE – all staff who attend this training will receive two certificate confirming they can deliver emergency first to adults and children.
