Progressive Masculinity – promoting positive behaviours and attitudes among male students

When – 13th May 9.30am-11.45am

Venue – Inspire Building, Tweedbank

A practical session which moves through the three following questions:

  • What are the prevalent views of masculinity amongst many of our young people?
  • What socio-cultural factors are shaping these views?
  • What evidence-based strategies can we employ to challenge regressive, dominance-based models of masculinity and promote a healthier, more aspirational understanding of what it can mean to ‘be a man’ in today’s world.

The training empowers staff to approach topics often considered sensitive and taboo within the male world (mental health, the impact of pornography, online influencers etc) but also helps to bring back the joy of masculinity and the potential of our gender to counter the overwhelmingly negative social narrative around masculinity.

Target Audience – All Pastoral Staff

Early Career Teachers – Coffee and Catch-up Sessions

Towards the end of last term, Early Career Teachers (ECTs) were given the opportunity to get together in their clusters at our new ‘Coffee and Catch-up’ sessions. Lots of rich discussion took place and valuable feedback was received regarding current support ECTs are receiving.

This feedback has proved to be incredibly helpful in terms of understanding and recognising the positive support some ECTs are receiving as well as highlighting areas we can improve for the future.

We look forward to having more ‘Coffee and Catch-up’ sessions before the Easter break and would welcome all ECTs. Please keep a look out for the next ECT flyer in the CLPL.
