Muddy Monday fun!

We have carried on our Outdoor learning this year with Muddy Mondays.

The children have been experiencing  the different types of cold weather!

In our Wood area in the school grounds we have been taking different types of mark making equipment and seeing what the children choose to do with it.

We have enjoyed having our story and snack outside too.

Please support us by ensuring your child is warmly and appropriately dressed for the weather!

Primary 1 Birdwatching

We had a busy morning on Friday as we worked with our P7 buddies to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. We wrapped up warm and enjoyed exploring different areas of the playground. In spite of the cold, we were able to see many different types of birds and we recorded our findings on a table. Then we headed inside to make bird seed feeders and shared some bird-themed stories with our P7 friends.

2019 – term 3

Welcome back everyone! We are all pleased to be back at ELC and we welcome some new boys and girls this term too!

This term we are going to be learning about, rhyming words and patterns. We are going to do this through talking about Scotland and learning a Scottish rhyme.

We will also be learning about foods which are healthy and unhealthy and recycling.

Christmas fun!

We were so busy in December! We did lots of Christmas crafts, decorated our Christmas tree, performed our nativity show, made cards and gifts to take home, had lots of visits from Elf on the shelf and had a party with a special visitor!

Primary One Scottish Celebration

Primary One Scottish Celebration

Every January we look at some songs and poetry written in Scots language for a whole school celebration later in the month. Each class holds a competition to choose one winner who will recite their poem at this event.

Primary One are invited to try to learn either the Jack and Jill poem or at least one verse of the Katie Bairdie song to perform to the class the week beginning 21st January (although they can do both). We will be learning and rehearsing these in class but you may wish to practise at home too.  Entering the competition is voluntary but we would all like to be able to sing the song together.

Please see the words to our song and poem below:

Spooky fun!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been doing lots of activities to do with Halloween and dressing up!

We have made a Halloween area in our ELC, painted and carved pumpkins, listened and danced to spooky music, went on a spooky Muddy Monday walk and had a fantastic dress up party!

P1 celebrate Outdoor Learning Day

We had a lovely walk all the way round the school grounds this afternoon. We were looking for signs of Autunn and for any animals that might share our environment…but really we just loved having a really good look around the other playgrounds. We especially loved the view from the P7 balcony! (Shh, don’t tell them we sneaked on!). What a gorgeous Autumn day.

Autumn fun

We have been having lots of fun learning about Autumn since we have came back from the October holidays!

We have got an Autumn investigation tree in ELC and children have been bringing in things from out in the community to put in it! There is lots of different coloured leaves in the tray too.

We have had some stories at the end of the day about Autumn and the weather too.  We listed to a story about Alfie and Annie, and we watched the story of the enormous  turnip on the smart board too.

At gym, we had the parachute out and we put leaves in the middle. When shook the parachute all together the leaves wen flying up in the air! We also enjoyed some autumn songs, movement and ,music.

Yesterday we had our first “Monday Muddy”. Everyone came in their warm clothes and we spent all our session outdoors exploring the school grounds, having snack outside, using the parachute in the mugga and playing in the leaves! It was great fun! 🙂

Some of the children made a yummy snack of flapjack with Mrs Ramage, it was delicious!
