Have a lovely summer!

Thank you for all of your emails the last few months sharing all of your learning at home and it was lovely to see those of you who popped in last week for your belongings.

Stay safe this summer and I look forward to seeing you again as Primary Twos in August and meeting the new Primary Ones.

Take care and fingers crossed for some good weather,

Mrs McGilp

P.S. The tadpoles finally have legs!

Happy holidays P1/2

Hello P1/2. It’s finally the end of term and I want to say a huge well done to you all for a busy year of learning. You have worked really well together and welcomed me as your new teacher in December. Thank you to you and your families for keeping in touch and sharing your home learning with me since March, I’m very proud of what you’ve achieved. I wish you all a great summer holiday and look forward to seeing primary one again as primary twos in August. Mrs Lloyd.

Hello Primary 1!

We hope you’re all safe and well.

Thank you for all of your emails to let us know how you’re getting on and the wonderful learning you’ve been doing at home. Remember you can email to share your work, any news you might have, what you’ve been reading or just to say hello.

Have you seen this week’s Kingsland Challenge with Mrs Hope?  We’re good at finding maths in our environment in Primary 1. What have you found while you’ve been out on your walks?

Mrs Lloyd has been spotting lots of interesting patterns on the ground.

Mrs McGilp has been looking at the symmetry in butterflies – if they stay still for long enough!

We’re both well and are looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Take care,
Mrs Lloyd and Mrs McGilp

Happy birthday Elmer

Hello everyone and thank you for sharing your Elmer pictures and stories with us. It’s great that many of you found the painted Elmer tiles around the park and school.

It wouldn’t be a birthday without cake so why not try to make an icing Elmer you can eat?

1. Draw round Elmer and cut it out.

2. Roll out fondant icing and ask a grown up to cut your Elmer shape out using the paper template.

3. Cut out coloured icing squares for the patchwork.

4. Put the squares in a patchwork pattern on the Elmer icing shape on top of a cake. A grown up can use a sharp knife to trim the edges.

Go on an Elmer Hunt!

Saturday 23rd May is Elmer’s birthday! So our next block of home learning is Elmer inspired.

One of the activities is to go on an Elmer Hunt. There are six of these Elmer slates hidden around the school and Hay Lodge Park.

How many can you find? Here are some clues to help you!

Please comment on this post to let us know how many you can find!

Please remember social distancing guidance and also please don’t touch or move the slates.

Stay safe,

Mrs McGilp and Mrs Lloyd

Meet the tadpoles!

Hello, I hope you’re all safe and well at home.

I thought I would share some news from my garden.  At the end of each winter we have lots of frogs appear at our pond. One year we counted 54! This picture was taken in the middle of March.

Shortly afterwards the pond begins to fill with frogspawn. It looks like big blobs of jelly!

Each little blob is an egg. We’ve been watching closely – and hoping the goldfish didn’t eat them!

A tadpole pushes its way out of each egg. These tadpoles are about four weeks old now. The next stage will be for them to grow legs. I’ll keep watching and share pictures with you when they do.

In the meantime, I’m sure you’ve all seen the wonderful stories in the Kingsland Story Corner. Please let us know what you think. I hope you enjoyed the first virtual assembly too. Watch here if you’ve not seen it yet.

Take care and please email with any questions or to say hello,

Mrs McGilp

Welcome back!

We hope you are all well and have had a lovely Easter break.

New learning will be coming later on today. In the meantime, why not start the next Kingsland Challenge – origami with Mr Swinney! Part 1 is making a bookmark. Please share pictures of your origami creations.  We’re going to try too!

Hello and happy holidays!

We hope you are all well at home. We’ve missed you all and our classrooms the last couple of weeks, but we have been so impressed with all of the learning you’ve been doing at home and how well you are working with your brothers and sisters. We are both very proud. Thank you to everyone who has shared so far.

We will post new activities on Monday 20th April.  Until then enjoy the Easter break and stay safe!

Hello!

Hello Primary 1,

I hope you’re all safe and well. I am so impressed with the learning you are doing at home! It’s great to see you being so creative.

I’ve been busy planning what we’ll do next and looking at some of my picturebooks. These are my favourites today. I would love to see what you’re reading at home.

Please keep sharing on the Share My Learning page and remember you can send me an email to share your stories or if you just want to say hello.

Take care,

Mrs McGilp
