Goodbye and thank you p2

Well done everyone for a great primary 2! You have all grown and learned so much this year, and been especially resilient when things have been uncertain. I’ve really enjoyed being your teacher and I will miss you all. Thank you very much for your kind gifts and messages, I really appreciate them.

Have a wonderful holiday with your families and I will see you back at Kingsland in August.

Kingsland festival

After PE we made bunting for Kingsland Festival then did a scavenger hunt. We had little boxes and had to collect 1-10 of little items from outdoors, for example, 1 stones, 2 flowers…10 blades of grass.

We played some outdoor games then watched ‘Despicable Me’ for the movie afternoon.

We’ve had a good week learning about bar graphs and Carroll diagrams in maths. Some children made their own graphs by asking everyone about their favourite pet and favourite ice cream flavour!

In writing we wrote about ourselves for our new P3 teacher. We described what we like and talked about our family, friends and favourite things.

We learned the rhymes ‘iss’ and ‘iff’ and talked about short vowel sounds.

Sports Day

On Monday p2 enjoyed a sunny sports day where they took part in six different activities including a beanbag shuttle, shooting basketballs and running over hurdles. Everyone was competing for their House and it was great to hear them cheering each other on.

There were sprinting races at the end and here are the winners.

Well done to everyone for taking part, doing their best and being good sports!

What we learned in P2 this week

This week we learned about alphabetical order and where things are listed in alphabetical order. We used a dictionary to find words and write them in order and learned that the class register is alphabetically listed by surname. We worked in pairs to arrange words and we looked at indexes at the back of non fiction books.

We wrote words that rhyme with ‘ow’ such as snow and window. We wrote a story ‘Lost and found’ and answered a question about our reading books.

In maths we learned the names and properties of some 3D shapes, and what the ‘D’ stands for.

We also began the concept of multiplication through grouping cubes into sets.

In art we drew and painted a koala.

P2 weekly spelling

Here is the list of words that p2 are learning this week. The list is a mix of words that can be blended, tricky words and words in a set.

The lists are sent home with the children so please practise them at home if you can.

Weighing in p2

This weeks’ practical maths was weighing classroom items using a two pan balance. We counted how many cubes, beads and pegs were needed to balance scissors, sellotape and a glue stick.

Today we watched assembly and reflected on how we use Skipper’s toolkit to help us when the river of life feels like difficult water. We enjoyed the story ‘The Rabbit Listened’.
Our spelling focused on the days of the week so our recount writing was ‘Monday’. Lots of children wrote about after school activities or things they do with their families.
We thought about words that rhyme with ‘ob’ and ‘all’.

Walking and talking in P2

We talked a lot this week about why walking to school is good for us and the environment. Here are our happy shoes from Shoesday.

In maths we are looking at patterns on a 100 square. We can add and subtract 10 by looking below or above any number. We notice patterns in the ten or unit as we count. We particularly liked diagonal patterns on the square!

We played a number game, finding sums in the given cards to complete our answer sheet.

Our reading books are very exciting and we can talk about the characters and plot.

Our spelling this week was the sound ‘ar’. We wrote and drew a farmyard.

Let’s Think. We worked in groups on listening and talking while sorting shapes into sets.

Play fosters creativity, problem solving and relationships. Aren’t we smart?!
