Primary 4/3 Term 2

Here is our class update for Term 2:

We will continue to have PE on Monday afternoons. We are currently having football sessions with coaches from Ayr United. Our second PE day alternates between Tuesdays and Fridays so it is best to make sure your child’s PE kit is in school every day. Please can children bring a change of shorts/ joggers/ leggings, t-shirt and gym shoes/trainers. No jewellery should be worn.

Reading and spelling homework will continue to be given out on a Monday and should be completed for a Friday. Please sign your child’s reading record each week and ensure their homework folder is returned to school. Some weeks spelling homework will be set online on Sumdog. Children have their logins in their reading record or posted on Learning Journals if their reading record has not been returned to school.  Children can also use this login for Sumdog maths for extra practice.

Term 2 is always a busy one and so far we have been learning about Bonfire Night, Remembrance day and we had fun on Halloween and Children in Need. In RME we learned about Diwali and our topic in December will be Christmas Around the World. Children have also started making some lovely crafts to sell at our Christmas Fair.

We are also celebrating Book Week Scotland. Primary 3 children will receive a book bag and will be taking part in fun reading activities with Primary 7/6 children.

Staff have been taking part in digital technology training and the children have got to work on their programming and coding skills this term through using Microbits, Indi Sphero cars and we also borrowed Marty the Robot from the Digital Lending Library.

Our Talk for Writing text this term is a recount called Jungle Walk. We used drama activities to start to learn the descriptive language used in the text. Some children will be working on using digital technology to help with their story writing.

In maths we have been working on strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. We will be moving on to multiplication and division soon. Mrs Connelly teaches us about Time on a Thursday and Mrs Parker has been doing some problem solving activities with us.

We are continuing our castles topic and in Science we are learning about sound. We have learned about pitch and volume and will soon be looking at the sounds different musical instruments can make and we will even be making our own instruments! Soon we will have our own class band!

You can see your child participating in some of the activities mentioned above by checking their Learning Journal.

P4/3 Term 1

We have had a super start to the term! We have all settled in well to our new class and we have been very busy learners!

Mrs Kirkwood teaches us on  a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Connelly teaches us on a Thursday and Mrs Parker teaches us on a Friday. Every other Friday we go outdoors for our learning along with Primary 2.

We have PE every Monday and the weeks we are outdoor learning we have PE on a Tuesday and if it is not our week to go outdoors we have PE on a Friday. This can be confusing so it’s best to make sure PE kit is in school every day. Children need to have a change of t-shirt, shorts/joggers/leggings and trainers or gym shoes. Children should not wear any jewellery to school on PE days.

Homework is given out every Monday and should be returned by Friday. Children are given a spelling task and a reading book. Parents/ carers should sign the reading record each week. If your child is struggling with the homework please leave a comment in the reading record. We do not want homework to become too stressful!

Our topic this term is Castles and the children have shown great enthusiasm so far. We have made models of castles, learned about what they were built for and their features and jobs in the castle. As we are enjoying this topic so much, we have planned a trip to Culzean Castle on Thursday 9th October where we will get to take part in a Life in the Past workshop in the castle.  A letter with further information will be sent home soon.

A very cheeky monkey has been visiting our class this term. We also found him hiding in a tree when we were out our walk. he had thrown hats everywhere! This introduced our Talk for Writing story this term, ‘ Monkey See, Monkey Do.’

If you would like to see more of our learning please make sure you login to Learning Journals regularly where photographs and information about our learning is posted regularly.
