It has been a busy term for the Rights Respecting School Committee. We are currently working towards our Silver Accreditation and hope to achieve it this term.

The committee ran a School Mascot competition where pupils were challenged to create a character with a name to highlight children’s rights within the school. The RRS committee created a short list of their favourites before the pupils voted for their favourite. Jessica’s design was voted the winner. Look out for Donald the Dailly Duck our displays around the school.

We have also created our Rights wall which displays our rights of the fortnight as well as any other rights that we have learned about. This links in with our SHANARRI indicators(Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Respected, Responsible and Included). So far we have learned about
article 23 – all children with disabilities should live the best life possible
article 17 – children have the right to access information
article 24 – the right to health care, clean water, healthy food and a clean, safe environment to live in.
article 19 – the right to be safe

Two of our committe members attended the Equalities Conference with Mrs Parker to learn how other schools were developing children’s rights and celebrating different cultures and tackling racism.
Our committee have been working on raising awareness of rights with our parents, staff and wider community. They decided to create a video called our favourite right, showing children, staff and members of our community talking about their favourite right. Look out for it shared on our blog!

We have started our campaign to improve our village:
Small Changes, Big Difference for Dailly…Let’s make Dailly shine!
Our committee thinks that there is a dog mess problem within the community as people as not picking up after their dogs. They also think there is lots of litter and some smashed glass at the park and at the forest. Look out for our posters around the village encouraging people to look after out village.

In term 3 we are concentrating on making our school a respectful place. We created a display showing ideas for how to be respectful. We also use a board game to learn more about respect. We will plan an assembly about respect and introduce a Rights Respecting School “Article of the Month.”

In March 2018 we had our Rights Respecting Schools assessment and we are delighted to say we achieved our Silver Award! The boys and girls have been working really hard to ensure everyone in the school knows their rights and how to respect others. Our rights respecting school committee are now working towards the Gold Award.

 

Our rights respecting schools committee organised activities for Children in Need. We did a duck race and a cake sale and everybody paid £1 to wear spotty clothes to school. Some of our children read the story “Pudsey’s Fundraiser” to the younger children.

 

 

We have been taking part in Unicef’s ShoeShare. The ShoeShare campaign collects old or unwanted shoes. These old or unwanted shoes are then sent for re-use. For every tonne of shoes collected, a donation is made to Unicef which goes towards education programmes around the world.

 

 

 

 

Next term our plan is to work on displays around the school which show our rights. We will also choose an article of the month for classes to learn about. The committee have been busy designing posters about our rights using Microsoft Publisher.
