World Book Day 2026

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who joined us for World Book Day activities.
We had a super morning listening to ‘Chaos at the Chocolate Factory’ and then completed some fun activities.
We then got into groups and created our own machines that could be used in Wonka’s Factory!

P2-4 explore the culture of the World Cup host nations.

With the World Cup just a few weeks away P2-4 has the opportunity to explore the good culture of the host nations. We made chilli from Mexico, hotdog GS  from U.S.A. And poutine from Canada. If you’re not sure what poutine is …. Ask the kids.

The children all had a great time cooking and tasting these foods they also had the opportunity to make their own chef hats.

P1/2/3 Term 4

Now that we are into our final term, we through we could give you a little insight into what P1/2/3 will be getting up to.

We will be continuing to learn new sounds each week and explore these through a range of different activities in school and at home. Please ensure homework is handed in on a Friday each week. This also includes reading books, it is expected each child has at least 2 new books a week to continue their reading progress.

We will be welcoming the pre-school children into our classroom this term to get them ready for Primary 1. The current primary 1’s will be working with them to look at their new topic ‘My School’ where we will explore all aspects of coming to school. P2/3 will be doing a big focus on health and wellbeing as well as a class enterprise.

During the term we will continue to have a big number focus and looking at the 4 operations. As well as this we will be covering, place value, measure and a recap of money and time. This will involve both written and lots of active activities!

Our PE days are a Monday and a Thursday, please ensure your child has the appropriate change as they will not be allowed to take part if they do not. We are currently focusing on athletics in PE with a focus on our upcoming sports day. Outdoor learning will continue this term. Please check the newsletter for specific dates.

We are excited to see what else we can achieve in our final term!

Easter Service 2025

A long term draws to a close with a lovely church service where P1-3 and the EYC entertained us with the Easter story and spring songs. 🐇🐣

Please follow the link to see songs in the Facebook comments. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15NSaMpun9/

Our Easter card winner were presented with a prize. Each year the cards get harder to judge with the children putting in lots of time and effort into making them lovely.

P3 pupils were presented with their certificates from The Quay Zone for completing a 6 weeks block of swimming lessons. 🏊‍♂️

P7 were also presented with their leavers hoodies to mark the beginning of their final term in primary school.

We hope you all enjoy your Easter Break and look forward to welcoming the children back on the 22nd of April.

Term 3

We started this term with learning about the Scots Language. We learned the songs “Jeannie McColl” and performed this at our Scottish afternoon. Primary 1 learned the poem “Mince and Tatties”, Primary 2  did “Crocodile”  and Primary 3 learned “The Sair Finger”. We are so proud of every single one of the pupils for taking the time at home to learn their poem. A big thank you to everyone at home for your help!

With the poetry theme we took on the challenge of becoming poets during our Talk for Writing sessions. We looked at different techniques such as, rhyme, alliteration and similes and used these to create a number of poems.

In maths we have been learning about money and measure, as well as a big focus on number. It has been great to see so many of the pupils challenging themselves with higher numbers and using the concrete materials to help them.

PE days this term will continue to be a Monday and Thursday, please make sure your child has a change of clothes and appropriate trainers / gym shoes on these days.

Scottish Concert 05.02.25

The children performed Scottish songs and recited some Burns poems for their parents and carers at our Scottish assembly on Wednesday 5th February. Children were judged when reciting their Burns poems by members of the Carrick Burns Club who picked 2 runners up and 1 overall winner from each year group. We  would like to thank Davie Hunter who has been dedicating his own time to be in classes weekly on the run up to our concert to help the children to learn their Scottish songs.
