Term 3 and 4

In terms 3 and 4, primary 1-3 have been learning a range of topics. We started the year looking at Scotland and all things Scottish. We tried a range of Scottish foods, learned different poems and sang songs with David Hunter. We then moved onto our topic of The World Around Us. This topic has allowed the class to learn about lots of different things. We started with the jungle and looking at what animals live there and their habitats. We then began to look at famous monuments and created some with a range of resources. We are currently learning about different careers and discussing what we would like to be when we are older. It has been really exciting exploring the different aspects of the world.

This term we have also been learning about data analysis and measure. We have been participating in lots of active maths and getting the chance to use the outdoors and school to measure different things. We learnt about centimetres and metres and the differences in different measurements. We will be moving onto fractions for the rest of the term and we can’t wait to do more active tasks.

During our outdoor learning sessions, we have been building our team building skills. We have been working hard at working together and as part of a group using different equipment. Mr Woods also built a fire with us one week and brought us in marshmallows. This allowed the class to learn about fire safety. We can’t wait to keep going out once a week to enjoy the sunshine!

We have been working hard through our Talk for Writing activities and have developed lovely handwriting skills and have become superstars at using adjectives in our writing. This term we will be focusing on punctuation and will have a big focus on speech.

Primary 1 – 3 Term 1

In term 1 primary 1-3 have been learning all about the circus. We have been practicing circus tricks in P.E, creating our own circus tents and masks and learning about the animals. Take a look at our topic display that we have developed over the term and some of the tricks we have been learning.

This term we have also been learning about shapes in maths. We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and learning about the properties of each. We completed lots of fun tasks during this time: look below to see our shape treasure hunt around the classroom.

In our outdoor learning slots this term we have been collecting leaves, acorns, helicopters and conkers. We have used them for many different things in class, for example, creating pictures and next term creating our own natural mobiles for every class in the school. We have been enjoying splashing in the mud and climbing the trees when we have been out and can’t wait to see what else we can do during the winter when the seasons change.

Next term our topic is going to be minibeasts. We can’t wait to learn about habitats, create our own bug hotels and describe and create our own minibeasts. We are also going to be learning lots about pattern and money in maths and writing our own stories in literacy.

Parent Open Morning

Thank you to our parents for joining in with our parent open morning today. Our next open morning will be on Thursday 22nd September from 10.45am until 11.45am. Following the session, we would like to invite you to join your child for lunch so that you can sample some of the food that we provide. All of the children receive a free lunch and adults are able to purchase a two course lunch on the day for £2.68.

Forces

Primary 3/2 have been working with Primary 1 to explore and investigate friction and gravity. They have been developing scientific skills such as planning a fair test, using questions and ideas to create an investigation and designing and carrying out scientific investigations. They made parachutes using different sized cupcake cases, explored friction with teddy zip line races and investigated gravity and friction by rolling balls of different sizes and shapes down the hill and observing how the size and shape of a ball had an impact on the speed at which it travelled.
