Term 4

We had such a lovely end to Term 3 with our Easter Service and Daffodil Tea. The children worked so hard learning their lines and songs and preparing artwork to decorate the hall.

Out topic this term is the Commonwealth Games. This will be covered across different curricular areas. In PE ewe will be focusing on athletics as well as trying out some other Commonwealth Games sports. We will be researching Commonwealth Countries and athletes and learning about inclusion at the games. PE will be on Mondays and Thursdays but we will also be taking part in Sports Championships events throughout the month of May in preparation for Sports Day so best to have PE kit in school every day.

Homework will continue to be given out on a Monday and should be returned by Fridays. Children will be given a reading book and a spelling activity each week.

We will be focusing on information texts this term and our Talk for Writing Unit will be based on the text, “Foxes.” Children will be learning about the features of non-fiction texts and will learn to research, take notes and organise their writing.

In maths we will be focusing on measure and data handling. Children have already been taking part in practical activities where they have been estimating and measuring length, mass and capacity.

Please remember to check your child’s Learning Journal regularly. Staff and children upload photographs and videos of their learning regularly. You can even upload photos from home of achievements or special events for the children to share with the class, these are always lovely to see.

Primary 4/3 Term 2

Here is our class update for Term 2:

We will continue to have PE on Monday afternoons. We are currently having football sessions with coaches from Ayr United. Our second PE day alternates between Tuesdays and Fridays so it is best to make sure your child’s PE kit is in school every day. Please can children bring a change of shorts/ joggers/ leggings, t-shirt and gym shoes/trainers. No jewellery should be worn.

Reading and spelling homework will continue to be given out on a Monday and should be completed for a Friday. Please sign your child’s reading record each week and ensure their homework folder is returned to school. Some weeks spelling homework will be set online on Sumdog. Children have their logins in their reading record or posted on Learning Journals if their reading record has not been returned to school.  Children can also use this login for Sumdog maths for extra practice.

Term 2 is always a busy one and so far we have been learning about Bonfire Night, Remembrance day and we had fun on Halloween and Children in Need. In RME we learned about Diwali and our topic in December will be Christmas Around the World. Children have also started making some lovely crafts to sell at our Christmas Fair.

We are also celebrating Book Week Scotland. Primary 3 children will receive a book bag and will be taking part in fun reading activities with Primary 7/6 children.

Staff have been taking part in digital technology training and the children have got to work on their programming and coding skills this term through using Microbits, Indi Sphero cars and we also borrowed Marty the Robot from the Digital Lending Library.

Our Talk for Writing text this term is a recount called Jungle Walk. We used drama activities to start to learn the descriptive language used in the text. Some children will be working on using digital technology to help with their story writing.

In maths we have been working on strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. We will be moving on to multiplication and division soon. Mrs Connelly teaches us about Time on a Thursday and Mrs Parker has been doing some problem solving activities with us.

We are continuing our castles topic and in Science we are learning about sound. We have learned about pitch and volume and will soon be looking at the sounds different musical instruments can make and we will even be making our own instruments! Soon we will have our own class band!

You can see your child participating in some of the activities mentioned above by checking their Learning Journal.
