P1/2/3 Term 4

Now that we are into our final term, we through we could give you a little insight into what P1/2/3 will be getting up to.

We will be continuing to learn new sounds each week and explore these through a range of different activities in school and at home. Please ensure homework is handed in on a Friday each week. This also includes reading books, it is expected each child has at least 2 new books a week to continue their reading progress.

We will be welcoming the pre-school children into our classroom this term to get them ready for Primary 1. The current primary 1’s will be working with them to look at their new topic ‘My School’ where we will explore all aspects of coming to school. P2/3 will be doing a big focus on health and wellbeing as well as a class enterprise.

During the term we will continue to have a big number focus and looking at the 4 operations. As well as this we will be covering, place value, measure and a recap of money and time. This will involve both written and lots of active activities!

Our PE days are a Monday and a Thursday, please ensure your child has the appropriate change as they will not be allowed to take part if they do not. We are currently focusing on athletics in PE with a focus on our upcoming sports day. Outdoor learning will continue this term. Please check the newsletter for specific dates.

We are excited to see what else we can achieve in our final term!

P7/6 Term 4

Welcome to the P7/6 blog! We will be discussing what we plan to do this term.

This term, we have P.E. every Tuesday and Wednesday. Sports day is coming up on the 2nd June 2025 so we are currently working towards our sport championships. Please ensure your child has a full change of PE kit on these days, including t-shirt, shorts/trousers and shoes. No jewellery should be worn on PE days please. Outdoor learning is every 2nd Friday. We are going to be focusing on tidying up and improving the school grounds. We are also preparing for P7 Leavers assembly and Prize Giving on the 20th June 2025.

Spelling homework this term is given out on a Monday and is expected back in on a Thursday. Pupils also have access to Sumdog and EducationCity at home to complete maths activities. We are very fortunate to also access the library bus and children are encouraged to read their books at home and swap them on its next visit.

We have a very busy term as P7 begin their transition days up to academy and bump up day for the rest of the pupils staying at Dailly Primary. Last term, the P7’s were involved with the other small village schools to meet each other and complete team building activities every Thursday for 4 weeks. On the 20th May, Primary 6 all get to attend a sports event at Girvan Academy.

This term, we are going to be looking at debating/discussion techniques in literacy. Our first topic is ‘Should School Uniform be compulsory?’ Pupils are currently writing a piece of discussion text debating their argument. As you can imagine, there are some strong feelings!

In maths, we are focusing upon building our confidence with number. We are using a range of strategies to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. We enjoy problem solving and are working towards solving complex multi-step word problems.

We look forward to showcasing our hard work this term with you!

P5/4 Term 4

We are now in the final term, time flies when you’re having fun! We will continue with our usual homework routine. Spelling will be given out by Mr Woods on a Monday and returned on a Wednesday. Mrs Kirkwood sets us reading homework on a Wednesday to be completed for a Friday. Please check and sign your child’s yellow reading record each week. Children also get time in class each morning to read their Accelerated Reader book. When children complete a book they can then do a quiz online which allows staff to see how well they have read and understood it. Lots of children have been in the 100% club, let’s hope this continues this term!

We have been participating in the Virgin Money project ‘Make £5 Grow. ‘ This is a great way for children to learn about managing money and enterprise. We sold ice creams at our school show. We made £117 profit from this. We plan to have a special ‘Toast Thursday’ tuck shop, make keyrings and bracelets to sell and have a snack stall at Sports Day. We greatly appreciate support from parents with this project.

Mr Woods will continue to work on number, place value and the 4 operations with us in maths. Mrs Kirkwood will be teaching us about measure once we have finished our money topic. This will involve lots of fun practical activities.

For the next few weeks PE will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Caitlin from Active Schools teaches us on a Tuesday and on Wednesdays we will join with P7/6 to take part in inter-house competitions in preparation for Sports day. Please ensure your child has a full change of PE kit on these days, including t-shirt, shorts/trousers and shoes. No jewellery should be worn on PE days please.  Outdoor learning will continue this term. Please check the newsletter dates for the diary for specific dates.

Our topic for this term will be ‘ Our Community’. Mr Woods has a special art project planned, keep an eye out for this! We will also be learning about lifecycles in Science.

Easter Service 2025

A long term draws to a close with a lovely church service where P1-3 and the EYC entertained us with the Easter story and spring songs. 🐇🐣

Please follow the link to see songs in the Facebook comments. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15NSaMpun9/

Our Easter card winner were presented with a prize. Each year the cards get harder to judge with the children putting in lots of time and effort into making them lovely.

P3 pupils were presented with their certificates from The Quay Zone for completing a 6 weeks block of swimming lessons. 🏊‍♂️

P7 were also presented with their leavers hoodies to mark the beginning of their final term in primary school.

We hope you all enjoy your Easter Break and look forward to welcoming the children back on the 22nd of April.

Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies

A band of entertainers discovered they didn’t have it in them to become robbers even when threatened by the sheriff and evil Queen Joan but they could win the heart of the powerful and popular Queen Rose and use their talents to entertain the people of the forest.

May we introduce Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies played by the cast of P4-7.
