Barr Primary and Early Years Centre

Active Schools

Barr Primary School and Early Years Centre work closely with our Active Schools Co-ordinator, Caitlin Flanagan. We are given the opportunity to try many activities and look forward to the visits from specialists.

We are working towards achieving our Gold Sport Scotland School Sport Award. We have already managed to achieve Silver due to the fun sport activities we take part in.

Caitlin organises a range of after school clubs for us to attend, which we love going to. These clubs help us to develop our skills further in different sports.  We also get to participate in a range of Active Schools competitions over the course of the year, such as badminton, dance and golf.  These are always great experiences and previously our senior dance group came 2nd in the South Ayrshire competition.

P6/7 also have the opportunity, through the Junior Coach Academy, to become sports coaches.  This allows them to facilitate sporting activities for the younger pupils in the school during break and lunchtimes.

P1-3  have been enjoying fitness sessions with Caitlin, especially her music choice.  The pupils have a great time with these sessions and are always excited when Caitlin is in school.
