Whole School Play

“Children learn as they play, most importantly they learn how to learn.”

Fred Donaldson

At Barr Primary School and Early Years Centre we believe play is an extremely important aspect of learning and we want to encourage play experiences throughout our school.  Play based learning is constant in our early years and prominent within our junior class.  We have now begun to implement play experiences within our senior class and to help encourage co-operative progressive play throughout the school we hold Whole School Play Days throughout the year.  Each term has a play day and the children are split into mixed age groups and rotate around the three classrooms to take part in different play experiences.  These play days have been so positively received by both children and staff and the pupils have developed a range of different skills and friendships together.
