Homework at Barr Primary School
At Barr Primary School, we believe that homework is a vital component of each pupilβs learning journey. It plays a key role in reinforcing the concepts and skills taught during the school day, helping to consolidate and deepen pupils’ understanding.Β Β We want homework to be clear, manageable, and enjoyable for both pupils and families. Thatβs why we use a monthly homework grid that gives a mix of tasks to choose from.
-
Starred activities are must-dos.
-
The other tasks are suggestions for extra practice and fun.
-
The days on the grid are just a guideβfeel free to move activities around to suit your familyβs routine and lifestyle.
There are two ways to share your childβs work:
-
Upload pictures, videos, audio, or computer documents to Learning Journals.
-
Hand in everything else in your childβs homework folder on the last day of the month (check the calendar for dates).
Weekly spelling words and sounds are displayed on the side of the grid, and reading books will be sent home each week to support your childβs literacy development.
Example Grid
We hope this flexible approach helps make homework a positive experience, encouraging learning, creativity, and family involvement.
Supporting Your Child with Homework
We encourage parents and carers to take an active role in supporting their child with homework. By engaging with the tasks set, you can help reinforce the learning that takes place at school and support your child’s progress.
Feedback and Queries
We value the feedback from both parents and pupils regarding homework. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to discuss your childβs homework in more detail, please feel free to contact us. You can speak with us in person or reach out via the schoolβs contact details.
Homework is a partnership between school and home, and by working together, we can ensure that it supports and enhances your child’s educational experience.
