Transitions within Our Early Years Centre and School
At Barr Primary School, we place great importance on smooth and supportive transitions within our Early Years Centre (EYC) and throughout the school. Our Early Years Centre has strong connections with our P2-4 class, and we plan various transition activities throughout the year to help our youngest pupils feel confident and secure as they move through their educational journey.
Outdoor Play Day
One of our key transition activities is our monthly Outdoor Play Day. During these days, our Early Years pupils join the rest of the school in exploring our beautiful local area. We engage in activities such as using outdoor loose parts, playing in the EYC outdoor area, and creating stunning transient art. These sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for our Early Years children to interact with older pupils, helping them to feel more integrated into the wider school community.
Inter-house Competitions
At Barr, every pupil is sorted into one of four houses: Stinchar, Rowantree, Changue, or Albany. These houses form the basis of our inter-house competitions, where pupils from the EYC to P7 work together in mixed-age groups to earn points for their house. These challenges take place throughout the year and are designed to foster teamwork, build relationships, and create a sense of belonging. Once placed in a house, pupils remain in that house throughout their time at the school, strengthening bonds and creating a continuous sense of community.
Transitions at Barr Primary School are carefully planned and supported, ensuring that all our pupils, from the youngest in the EYC to the oldest in P7, feel confident, connected, and valued as part of our school family.
