Our Early Years Centre and our P1-3 class have very strong links and we plan transition activities throughout the year. This year we have the added bonus that we spend parts of each day together and the relationships between the Junior Class and the EYC are very strong. Below are some of our specific transition activities we take part in over the year.
PE
We enjoy joining the P1-3 class for PE every week to help us develop our skills in sport and increase our activity. During our lessons we have developed lots of new skills and have learned about cricket and we are now learning about badminton. We love joining the P1-3 and they love having us. We have gained so much confidence in our own abilities since beginning.
Outdoor Play Day
Every month the Early Years joins with the rest of the school to take part in our whole school play days. During these days we explore our local area, use the outdoor loose parts, play in the EY outdoor area and create beautiful transient art. We have also picked brambles from the trails and apples from our garden and made some delicious apple and bramble crumbles.
Inter-house Competitions
At Barr we are sorted into one of four houses: Stinchar, Rowantree, Changue and Albany. Once we are in our houses we take part in a range of inter-house challenges over the year to try to gain points for our house. We also get extra points if we work well in a team. These challenges are in mixed groups from EY to P7 and we stay in our houses for our whole time at the school. We always want to try to get the most points for our team for we try to work as a team. This session we have had a quiz in the style of House of Games – Miss Burton’s Interhouse of Games.
