School Assemblies at Barr Primary School
At Barr Primary School, assemblies are a vital part of our school life, providing an opportunity for pupils to engage with important themes, contribute to the school’s self-evaluation process, and share their learning with the wider community.
Engaging in Collective Exploration
Assemblies at Barr Primary are led by Miss McBean or Miss Burton and serve as a platform for pupils to explore various topics and themes. During these sessions, pupils work together to investigate key areas such as:
- Wee HGIOS (How Good is Our School): Pupils participate in discussions and activities related to the school’s self-evaluation process. This allows them to reflect on the quality of their educational experience and contribute ideas for improvement.
- Children’s Rights: Assemblies provide a space for pupils to explore and understand their rights as outlined by the UNCRC, helping them to appreciate and advocate for their own and others’ rights.
- SHANARRI: Pupils delve into the SHANARRI well-being indicators (Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, and Included) in a way that resonates with them, fostering a deeper understanding of their own well-being and that of their peers.
These sessions are designed to be engaging and relevant, ensuring that pupils are actively involved in discussions and activities. Their participation is a crucial part of our self-evaluation wheel, helping to shape and improve our school community.
Class-Led Assemblies
Throughout the year, each class takes responsibility for leading their own assembly. These assemblies are an opportunity for pupils to present what they have been learning and celebrate their achievements. Key events include:
- Christmas Service (P2-4): The pupils in P2-4 deliver a festive Christmas Service, sharing the Christmas Story through various creative means. This service is a highlight of the school year and provides a joyful way for the school community to come together and celebrate the season.
- Easter Service (P5-7): Our P5-7 pupils lead a sensational Easter Service, presenting the story of Easter in diverse and engaging ways. This service is held in the church and is an important part of our annual celebrations.
- End of Year Service: At the end of the school year, pupils participate in a reflective service that showcases their learning and growth over the year. This is a special occasion for parents, carers, and the wider community to see the progress and accomplishments of our students.
A Chance to Connect with the Community
School assemblies also serve as a valuable opportunity for parents, carers, and the community to engage with the school and witness the learning and development of our pupils. These events provide a window into the vibrant life of Barr Primary School and celebrate the collective achievements of our school community.
We are proud of the way our pupils engage with and contribute to school assemblies, and we look forward to continuing these important traditions throughout the year.
