Our School House Teams
At Barr Primary School and Early Years Centre, we take pride in our vibrant house system, which is an integral part of our school community. We have four school houses, each representing different areas of our local environment: Stinchar, Rowantree, Changue, and Albany.
A Sense of Belonging and Teamwork
When pupils join our Early Years Centre, they are assigned to one of these house teams, and they remain a part of this house throughout their time at Barr Primary. Being part of a house fosters a strong sense of belonging and encourages pupils to work together as a team. It also provides opportunities for leadership, as pupils in senior levels can become house captains or vice captains, taking on the responsibility of leading their peers and representing their house with pride.
Earning Points and Celebrating Success
Pupils earn points for their house in various ways, including demonstrating good manners, embodying our school values, and lining up well in the morning, at break, and at lunchtime. Additionally, inter-house competitions, such as Sports Day and other challenges throughout the year, provide exciting opportunities for pupils to contribute to their houseβs success while having fun and developing teamwork skills.

A Message from Our House Captains
Hi, weβre the House Captains at Barr Primary School!
At Barr, our Houses, Stinchar and Changue, are a really important part of school life. Being part of a House gives everyone a sense of belonging and helps us work together as a team.
The competitions and challenges we take part in are not only fun but also help us build confidence, especially when weβre put under pressure in a good way!
Working in teams pushes us to communicate better, solve problems, and even step up as leaders. These challenges help us develop important meta-skills like creativity, decision-making, and resilience, which are useful in everyday life and for the future.
The House system also promotes our school values β kindness, confidence, achievement, respect, and honesty. Whether weβre cheering each other on during sports or working together on a project, we always try to show these values. Plus, itβs a great way to meet new people and make new friends across the school.
Overall, being part of Stinchar and Changue makes our school feel like one big team, and we love it!
Inter-House Challenges
Throughout the school year, our house teams participate in various challenges to earn points. These challenges are designed to foster teamwork, build strong relationships, and encourage pupils to work towards a shared goal. Whether itβs competing in sports, academic quizzes, or creative competitions, the inter-house challenges are a highlight of the school year and contribute to a vibrant, supportive school community.
By being part of a house at Barr Primary, every pupil has the opportunity to develop valuable skills, form lasting friendships, and contribute to the collective success of their team.
