This year, we are delighted to welcome pupils to our P1-7 class, led by Mrs McBirnie and Miss Burton, with support from Mrs Trotter and Mrs Sinclair. Together, we strive to create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child is encouraged to learn, grow, and succeed.

Our class follows a balanced approach to learning, ensuring that all pupils experience a mixture of play, exploration, direct teaching, collaboration, and independent learning. We aim to create an environment where children are motivated, challenged, and supported to achieve their full potential.

We are fortunate to have two distinct learning spaces which allow us to meet the needs of learners across all stages:

The Inspiration Space

The Inspiration Space is a vibrant and engaging environment designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and exploration. Each morning, our P1-5 pupils access a play-based approach to learning through literacy and numeracy. Carefully planned provocations, hands-on resources, and meaningful learning experiences encourage children to develop key skills while following their interests and building independence.

The space includes areas for role play, arts and crafts, small world and construction play, investigation, and reading, providing a rich learning environment where children can collaborate, problem-solve, and learn through purposeful play.

The Calm Classroom

The Calm Classroom provides a quieter, more focused environment for structured teaching, independent learning, and small group support. Each morning, our P6/7 pupils access this space for their literacy and numeracy learning, engaging in targeted teaching, collaborative discussion, and independent tasks designed to challenge and extend their learning.

The classroom also provides access to laptops and flexible working spaces, allowing pupils to make effective use of digital technology to support and enhance their learning.

Learning Together

While P1-5 pupils engage in play-based literacy and numeracy learning within the Inspiration Space and P6/7 pupils access the Calm Classroom for their literacy and numeracy learning each morning, the whole school comes together in the afternoons for learning across the wider curriculum. This allows our learners to work collaboratively across stages, develop leadership skills, and build strong relationships throughout the school community.

Each week, pupils take part in Challenge Choose-days, where children from across the school engage in a range of play-based provocations, challenges, and learning experiences. These opportunities encourage creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and independence while allowing learners to pursue their interests and learn alongside one another.

For pupils who require a quiet space to regulate their emotions or take some time out, we have access to our Bubble Den, providing a supportive environment where children can reset and return to learning when they are ready.

Across both learning spaces, we encourage pupils to take ownership of their learning, develop confidence and resilience, work collaboratively, and challenge themselves to achieve their personal best. We are proud of the supportive and inclusive atmosphere within our class and look forward to an exciting year of learning, discovery, and success together.
