Co-operative learning Primary 3

The basic aim of any Co-operative learning task is working together to achieve a common goal. Within Co-operative learning activities pupils seek outcomes that are beneficial to themselves and to their team members. Within Co-operative learning, small groups of pupils should be used to allow pupils to work together until each member of the team fully understands the learning intention. Knowing that each individual will only succeed if all group members understand, motivates pupils to scaffold one anothers’ learning whilst improving relationships and social skills of all team members.

Primary 3 really enjoyed this lesson and will be working frequently within their Co-op groups. Each group have now created their ‘Team Identity’.

We have “The Purple Guitars”, “The Dancing Macaroni’s” and “The Green Chocolates”.

Take a look at our Primary 3’s in action.

You can see the co-operation, motivation, engagement, face to face interaction, social skills being developed.

P6/7 Masterchefs!

Primary 6/7 have been cooking up a storm!

Today they were given a recipe to make their own pizzas from scratch. They had to measure all of the ingredients, follow all of the steps to mix and knead the dough, roll it out and then top with tomato pizza sauce and cheese. They then had to use the oven carefully and time their pizzas to perfection!

They also made some extra pizzas and shared them with the rest of the school, who all gave them the thumbs up!

If you would like to try out their recipe then you can find it by clicking here.

Here are a few photos of them in action!

We will also have iPads in the hall tonight and QR codes available if you would prefer to complete it on your own device. If you would prefer a paper copy or any help to complete this, please let us know and we’ll arrange it.

Big Battery Hunt Recycling Continues…

duracell big battery hunt with rabbits and explanation of campaign

As you already know after a successful year last year with recycling batteries, we are continuing with the challenge again this year.

Lets see if we can beat last years…

2,500!

Each pupil has been given a battery box home and should bring this to school when full. We have Battery bins located in the front of the school building where they will be kept and counted in June.

Here is last years success in the Gazette!

Crazy Hair Day

This Friday (25th January) our Community Heroes Pupil Leadership Group will be hosting a Crazy Hair Day. Pupils are invited to style their hair in weird and wonderful ways for the cost of £1 per family.

All the money raised will be used to support our friends in St Vincent’s Hospice and design a permanent Toadstool feature as part of their Woodland Walkway. We’ll keep you updated with our progress towards this goal.

We look forward to seeing your Crazy Hair on Friday!

P6/7’s Journey Sticks

On Monday afternoon, Primary 6/7 went out for a walk to create a Journey Stick.

First of all they had to find their partner after choosing a ball at random – we had pairs such as Woody and Buzz, Mickey and Minnie and Mario and Luigi!

With their partner, the pairs then went for a walk and exploration around a part of The Bluebell Woods, collecting natural items. These items were tied onto their journey stick, in order, so that they could retell the story of their journey using the items as a reminder.

P6/7 also had a great time exploring the natural surroundings – even finding part of a tree trunk which became a throne and another huge tree trunk which was big enough to fit the whole class onto!

Outdoor Learning

Today P2 went for a winter walk to come up with some good ideas and words for our winter poem. Armed with clipboards and pencils we worked in teams to think about what we could see, hear, taste, smell and touch in winter. We also talked about how we were feeling.

Some amazing observations and ideas included;

” drips as the ice melts”

” the stones feel like little balls when you move your feet around”

“I liked to see the bubbles when you step on the ice a little”

ice ” cracking”, ” tingling”, ” crunching” , “squeak”
