What will I be learning in P6

Our teacher is Mr Donaghy

Literacy
Language is about communicating. We will enjoy reading novels, information texts and poetry and use these as a basis for discussion and prediction, considering intentions and feelings. We will also use these as a basis for considering literature through developing reading detective roles. We will be taught note taking skills and use these to identify keywords and phrases for comprehension of text. We will write in a variety of genres producing letters, scripts, imaginative stories and personal recounts. We will learn to speak confidently by scripting presentations and use Power Point to present to class and whole school assemblies. We will continue to develop our listening skills whilst listening to visiting speakers and through using video clips. We will develop our ability to distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources of information, particularly on the internet.

Mathematics
There is a lot to maths including mental maths, position and movement, number, money and measurement and information handling. We will investigate how maths is used in real life situations. Our active maths will cover continue using practical maths work cards, tarsia cards and online computer software such as ‘interactive resources and ‘Education City’.
