Information

First Aid

First aid equipment is available in the Nursery and minor cuts and bruises can usually be treated at school. If it is necessary for a child to be taken to hospital for a more serious injury, parents will be informed. All accidents are recorded, outlining what happened and the steps taken by staff. The adult collecting the child will be fully informed by the staff about any incidents.

Medicine

Please advise us of any particular medical requirements. In all cases parents are responsible for administering medicine unless a separate agreement is reached between the parent and the senior nursery officer.

We will only administer medicine if the relevant parental permission is in place as per Renfrewshire Council Policy.

If your child is unwell at school we will phone the first emergency phone number (usually the home) on our list and if no one is available we will phone work numbers where appropriate.

Toothbrushing

These standards have been developed by a national working group involved in the implementation of the key oral health initiatives announced in the Scottish Executive document ‘Modernising NHS Dental Services Improving Children’s Oral Health’

Daily toothbrushing with a suitable flouride toothpaste is an effective means of helping to prevent decay and supervised toothbrushing programmes in nursery and school settings lie at the heart of the Scottish Executives oral health initiatives for younger children.

All our staff have been fully trained in the toothbrushing programme.

What to Wear

Children are encouraged to be ready for nursery each day, wearing clothes which are appropriate for a wide range of activities each day, e.g. painting, sand, water, outdoor play. There are times when accidents with paint or water may occur and a spare set of clothes should be left at nursery to cover all eventualities. Children must change their shoes on entering the nursery and all items of clothing which may be removed should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

Food and Snacks

As part of the ‘Health Promoting Schools’ initiative we provide a healthy snack each day and children are encouraged to make their own snack where possible. We promote a healthy eating programme. The children are introduced to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Milk is delivered to the nursery and we encourage the children to drink this. Still water is offered as an alternative. Please do not give your child sweets or drinks to bring to class. It is vital that parents inform Nursery staff if any child has food allergies or has any foods they do not wish their child to try.
