P2R wk beg 26.11.17

I hope you all had a great weekend.  News and Homework as follows:

Homework

No formal spelling this week as it is a shorter working week.  The children can practise their phonics skills using these games if you wish.

http://www.ictgames.com/literacy.html

Maths Homework this week is looking at counting in 2s and 5s.  These skills are very useful when we look at money combinations later in Primary 2.

Reading books continue.  We will continue to look at fiction books until the end of term.  This is helping us with our reading focus of looking at the beginning, middle and end of stories.  After Christmas we will look at non fiction texts.

Wordwalls will be checked on Tuesday this week.

News

We are off school on Thursday 30th December for St Andrews day.

On Friday 1st December we have our school Christmas house art day.  This is where the children work in their house teams to create a piece of large art for the school display areas.  This year our theme is Christmas carols.  Pupils should wear their house colours –

Hawks (green)

Falcons (blue)

Eagles (yellow)

Ospreys (red)

The children will be using lots of art materials including glue, paint and drawing materials.  It is a fabulous day and we can’t wait.

On Saturday 2nd December the school fair will take place in the school between 1pm and 3pm.

We are looking for more parent helpers to accompany us on our local community walk on Friday 8th December.  If you are able to join us between 9am and 10:30 on this day please pop a note in the diary.

A reminder that the short read, write count event takes place on Tuesday afternoon.

Thank you for all of your continued help and support.

Sumdog Contest Daily Results

The Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest started yesterday and so far we have two classes who have qualified: P5/4 who are in 16th place and P4M who are in 21st place! Well done. Remember each class needs at least 10 pupils per class to play in order to qualify. Have fun playing the games, practise your numeracy and maths skills and help your class to climb the leader board. @sumdog @MathScot

Road Safety Week

  •  As part of our health and wellbeing topic, P2B worked in partners to create posters for Road Safety Week. We had a great discussion about how we cross the road safely, about why people speed on the road and how we can encourage them to slow down. Our posters encourage safe crossing of road and to ‘Slow Down, Save Lives’ for Road Safety Week.

Read Write Count Event

A letter was sent home earlier this week inviting you to attend a short read write count event in school on Tuesday 28th November, in the afternoon.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could return the reply slip to your child’s class teacher tomorrow.  If you have misplaced the slip, a wee note in the homework diary would be super, thank you.

Sumdog Contest – Friday 24th to Thursday 30th

All P2-7 classes have been entered into the Renfrewshire Sumdog contest which runs from 8am on Friday 24th to 8pm on Thursday 30th. Please play any game to help your class and our school climb the leader board. Each class needs 10 players to play in order to qualify. So far, 131 classes from across Renfrewshire have entered! #makingmathscount

P2R news

We are planning to have our P2 woodland and local community walk on Friday 8th December. (weather permitting)  The children have been learning about the Forestry Commission and ways in which our woodland areas in Scotland are very useful and important to our society.  We watched this video together and had a wonderful discussion about the importance of looking after our woodland areas and our local community.

If you are able to join us on our walk, please pop a note in the diary and we will be in touch as soon as possible.  We aim to leave the school at 9:15 and be back by playtime at 10:30.  Thank you in advance.

This Friday we will continue our read and munch.  Pupils are welcome to bring in a healthy snack and story to read in class.

In the next couple of week we will be beginning our formal French lessons in class. We intend to embed this Language in our everyday routines so prepare for the children to be using French at home and singing some French songs!!!

Merci beaucoup

Week Beginning 20th November

Hello all, I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Homework

This week our spelling sound is ‘ck’ as in ‘duck’ or ‘sock’. I was impressed with some of the words the children came up with in class.

Maths- practicing some more mental maths sums. The children are getting so good at their subtraction calculations!

Reading books have been issued. Can I just remind you that these books need to be treated with care, as some books have been known already to loose their pages! Please continue to ask about the beginning/middle/end of the books with your child.

News

Primary 2 had a great day fundraising for Children In Need last week and the school managed to raise a whopping £663.78! (Some photos to follow).

We have also started practicing our songs for the school Nativity. I am so impressed with the wonderful performers we have in P2B! Let me know if you have not received a letter with the date of your child’s performance.

Our focus in maths this week is ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ and ‘equal to’ we started looking at this yesterday and already it looks like we’ve got it! However, here is a neat video to help your child remember the rule: Charlie, the hungry crocodile, wants to eat the BIGGEST number!

Thanks for all your continued support.

Wk beg 20th November

Good evening everyone,

I hope you had a lovely day. Homework and news as follows.

Spelling: Our sound this week is ck as in lock, back and sock. I was very impressed with all the extra words you came up with today in class – try and use some of them in your homework.

Reading: Reading books have been sent home today. Please continue to discuss what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story if you are able. I’ve also enjoyed hearing about the beginning,  middle and end of books that you have read at the library. We hope to visit the library as a class next term.

Word walls: These have now been issued and we will continue to work through these in class.

Maths: Our focus this week is greater than, less than and equals – <  =  > and there is a sheet to accompany this. Remembering which sign goes which way can be tricky – the crocodile eats the larger number because it is super hungry! Here is the link to the song we sang today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6Efzu2slaI

Other news:

I have been introduced to some fabulous new stories this term. Thank you for bringing in your books – we still have a few weeks left of this topic if you have anymore tales to share.

Primary 2 will be taking part in this year’s nativity performance.  We have already begun to learn our songs and I have been very impressed with our sense of rhythm and beat! If you have not received a letter regarding our performance day please pop a note in your child’s diary.

Have a lovely week ahead,

Miss Cauley
