News

This week we continued out Rainforest topic.  On Friday we created our rainforest in the classroom.  The children worked together in their groups to create the plants that we find in the rainforest.  It looks fabulous.  Pictures to follow.  Plants included the Venus fly trap, the Rafflesia (smelly plant) and the Bromeliade.

On Tuesday morning P2 will be watching a theatre production in school as a reward for improving in the Summer reading challenge.  This is in our P.E slot however I will try to fit in extra exercise and our daily mile that day to ensure our fitness levels continue to improve.

Sumdog passwords will be stuck in the homework diaries this week so look out for these so children can log on and start practising their maths skills at home.

I am continuing to work with the children and their reading running records this week.  Wordwalls have also been checked and the next set of words highlighted for practise this week.

We are in the process of booking a Rainforest trip to Amazonia.  Dates and details will be out as soon as possible.

Thank you as always for your support.

Sumdog

P2-7 pupils have or will be given their username and password for Sumdog. Sumdog is a way for children to practice maths skills while playing fun, math-related games against friends, classmates or students from around the world. Games are individualised for each pupil’s ability level, so users can play against opponents who have the same skills.

Please save the link below on your computer/tablet to take you straight to the login page (with the school code pre-filled). Our school code is bishopton-primary-school.

P2C and P6G read and munch

P6G have teamed up with P2C to do a read and munch every Friday to read our stories to each other with a healthy snack. We really enjoyed this and primary two were fantastic listeners! We are looking forward to next week when they bring books up to us to read!

Plastic bottles

Good evening,

Just a reminder that this Friday P2B will be doing Rainforest music as part of our topic. If possible, please could you give your a child a clean plastic bottle (any size) to bring in to make rain shakers. Even better if you have more than one, the more the merrier! Thanks in advance.

Week Beginning 28.08.17

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Homework was handed out in book bags yesterday. Our sound this week is ‘ch’ and spelling homework/instructions have been stuck into homework jotters. Please remind your child to bring their book bags into school everyday. If any letters are handed out I will ask the children to put it in their book bags. If you have any notes for myself or the school they are best put into book bags too. Thanks!

I am in the process of completing reading records for each child in the class, to ensure they are starting their reading at the correct level. In the meantime, this week I will also allow the children to take a book home to read for pleasure. If you can, please read a little with your child each night. I am also creating word walls for each child, so that they have specific words to focus on in school and at home. Each wall will be tailored to each child.

Last week we started our rainforest topic.  We got into our topic groups and created a poster and a team name.  It was great fun.  The children will be making rainshakers in one of the lessons. P2B will have their lesson this Friday.  If possible we would like the children to bring in an empty, clean plastic bottle for this lesson.  Any size is fine.   Thank you in advance.

Have a pleasant week.

Good evening,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. Please see below for homework details and class updates.

This week our spelling sound is ch.  Our 4 common words and 4 ch words will be inside the homework jotters.  The spelling instructions are stuck into the front cover of the jotters.

Reading running records are being completed this week with your child to set the right reading level.  This is where we give your child an unseen text to pitch the correct reading level for each child.   Your child has chosen a ‘take-home’ book to read this week as this is taking place.  Please read a little each night with your child if possible.

Children regularly use the class library and discuss their favourite books with friends. On Tuesdays we will have ERIC time in class. Children can bring in a book from home to enjoy at this time.

I hope you have all had a restful weekend.  Homework and news as follows:

Homework

This week our spelling sound is ch.  Our 4 common words and 4 ch words will be inside the homework jotters.  The spelling instructions are stuck into the front cover of the jotters.

This week your child will also have a wordwall to look at.  I have been spending time in the first 2 weeks going over the first 100 common words for word recognition with your child.  We would like your child to practise reading these wordwall words.  I have highlighted the words to focus on in green but your child can do more if they wish.

Reading running records are being completed this week with your child to set the right reading level.  This is where we give your child an unseen text to pitch the correct reading level for each child.   Your child will have a book in their bookbag to read this week as this is taking place.  Please read a little each night with your child if possible.

On Friday we chose our first Paths child of the day.  This child will be given compliments in class on Monday by the other children.  These will then be sent home to show.  It would be great when it is your child’s turn to be child of the day that you choose another 1 or 2 compliments to add to the list.  This will then be discussed the next day in class.  This child of the day will also be given special jobs in class such as choosing our “go noodle” dance and being a class helper.

Thank you for all of your support.

P2B – Welcome!

Good morning,

It has taken me a week or so to get my account here set up so apologies for the late blog post!

I would just like to welcome everyone in P2B to the classroom; we’ve had a great start to the term and I know that it will just get better and better. During our first week we were easing the class back into school routine with soft starts, getting to know you lessons and covering classroom rules.

Our P.E days will be Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure that your child brings an appropriate gym kit with change of shoes. Pupils can wear their red polo top should they wish and black shorts. Gym kits can be left at school.

Spelling homework was handed out on Monday and is due tomorrow (Friday). Spelling homework consists of 4 common words and 4 words with the spelling sound for the week.  Children should be familiar with the common words and this term we are focusing on them being able to spell these as well as being able to recognise and read them.

Reading homework and maths homework will be handed out in due course. Homework letters will also be handed out to children today.

Our first big topic of this term is the rainforest. I am very excited to begin this brilliant topic with the class and I was impressed by their enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject.

P2C: Week beginning 21/08/17

I hope you have all enjoyed your weekend. Please find below updates on homework and class news.

Spelling homework was given out today. The focus sound of the week is ‘sh’ and children have been coming up with a variety of words featuring the sound.  Homework instructions are stuck into the front of the spelling jotter.  Spelling consists of 4 common words and 4 words with the spelling sound for the week.  Children should be familiar with the common words and this term we are focusing on them being able to spell these as well as being able to recognise and read them.

Reading homework and maths homework will begin in due course.

We have had a fantastic start to Primary 2, with children enjoying opportunities to take part in art, language, maths and technology activities.

Beginning next week (wb 28/08/17) the children will have the opportunity to share news at a check in time.  Your child will be allocated a day to share their news with the class.  On this day your child can bring in something small to show to the class (with your permission) if they wish.  Pupils can choose just to talk about their news.  A small note will be in the book bag this week to tell you your child’s day.

This term we will be learning about The Rainforest.  Children were given the opportunity to discuss what they would like to learn about their new topic and I was very impressed by the number of different ideas and questions they put forward.  This is a fantastic topic and we hope to book a trip to go along with this topic as soon as we can.

Homework information letters will be in the bookbags this Thursday detailing more information.

Have a lovely week.
