Homework: Monday 3rd October

This week for spelling, we are focusing on ‘th’ and the word family ‘_it’.  Remember to look at each word in homework jotter, say it, cover it, write it and check it. Do this twice for each word. After, you can choose a word to write a sentences or try and come up with more words with that spelling. Homework should be returned every Thursday as it allows time for the following week’s words to be added. Thank you for your co-operation.

Story time

Listen carefully to this story about a shark called Clark. Imagine you were a sea creature in Clark’s class.

  1. Draw a picture of the sea creature you would be. You might want to be a starfish, a crab or something else!
  2. Give your character a name and label your picture.
  3. Write a sentence about your character. What are they wearing? Are they friendly?

Listen, read and sing along to ‘Do you want to build a snowman?’

How many times can you spot the tricky words ‘is’ and ‘you’?

 

Maths

Practise saying and writing your numbers between 1 and 100. Have a go at saying them backwards!

Spelling Homework:

Use the Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check to spell your words into your homework jotter 3 times. You should know what spelling group you are in. If you need a new homework jotter, then let your teacher know.

Challenge: Choose 1 of your spelling words and write a sentence for your chosen word. Remember a sentence starts with a capital letter and needs a full stop at the end.

Reading

As you are aware, we cannot send reading books home at the moment because of the Covid19 pandemic. However, we will continue to do reading in class and your child will have access to reading books at school. Homework week beginning 26.10.20

Good morning, we hope you all had a relaxing weekend. The clocks went back an hour so you all got an extra hour in bed! This week will be fun and exciting as Halloween is approaching and remember you can come to school on Friday dressed up or in your own casual clothes. Buckets will be in the playground here you can hand in a £1 donation. Please find below homework tasks for this week.

Spelling Homework

This week we have introduced spelling groups. Each week we will learn different spelling rules and practice our spelling words at home as well as in class. At the end of the week on a Friday, we might sometimes do an informal spelling test with our homework words.  We will be using the ‘Look, say, cover, write and check’ method. Please find more information on this below. There are also other spelling strategies which can also be used to help improve spelling and these can be found below too.

Find your group spelling words and write them in your homework jotter on the left hand side.

Look at the first word and say it. Cover it and the try and write it. Check to see if you spelled shop correctly. Repeat again. Now try it with all the other words.

In class we have been learning to use different reading strategies to improve our reading. Please find this useful poster to go over with your child. Ask your child to explain what each strategy means. See is you can use these strategies when reading at  home.
