Homework for week beginning 10/2/22

.

Happy New Year! We do hope all children and families had an enjoyable break. The P2 team were so pleased to see the children return to school. To begin 2022 we are learning the digraph (two letters, one sound) ‘ss’, and how say and write words which contain this sound. Please support your child to revise this sound by clicking on the following links:

We are also revising our understanding of data handling this week. Click on the following links to practice:

Making Wilibot

P1 and 2 children have been very busy at the Tinker table over the past few months making a robot called Wilibot! This has been inspired by the story ‘One Button Benny’ story, written by Alan Windram. He is now ready to visit our classes and the Open area to help us learn how to write our numbers, 2D and 3D shapes. Click on the following video to hear Wilibot talk, and find out how he was made!

Click in the following link to listen to author Alan Windram read his story, ‘One Button Benny’.

Resource packs for remote learning

Your child’s named resource pack will be ready for collection from Monday 11th January from the main entrance door of the school. Please can this be collected as soon as possible, as these resources will be used to complement their remote learning.

Many thanks!

Session 8: Included

Today was our final outdoor learning and play session, and we focused on the indicator ‘Included’.

We brainstormed the meaning of this word, which included;

Letting friends play with us.

Nina suggested listening to our friends ideas and not laughing.

Ryan said when we are talking we should include others in our conversation.

Amelia suggested we could share our ideas with our friends.

We thought we could share our ideas and learning about the outdoors with Ms Cochrane and Mrs Vandal to include them too. The children did so, and they were so impressed, P2 children were presented with their own WOLPA (Williamsburgh Outdoor Learning and Play Award).

P2 children then all wrote their names on a bird house, to hopefully attract more birds to our garden and give them a home.

Session 7:  Respected

Today we focused on our seventh wellbeing indicator, ‘Respected’.

We brainstormed how we can be respectful to each other.

When outdoors, Rhyann observed the birdhouses Mr Wilson our Janitor put up in the trees. She said she thought the bottom treehouse was too low, and not safe for the birds as a fox could eat them. This was agreed by the rest of P2, so we problem solved and Mrs Mackey said she will bring her screwdriver out to our last session, and we can decide where to relocate this.

Tom had a great idea to make a home for hedgehogs using leaves and slate pieces he found last outdoor learning session. Tom, Ryan and Sophie demonstrated excellent collaborative work making this!

We reflected on last sessions story, the ‘Secrets of Winter’, and carefully investigated our garden to see if we could find any hibernating wildlife, and were careful not to disturb them. Ryan discovered a snail, and we learned from our story that in Winter, snails retreat into their shells and seal them shut until Spring, and this prevents them from drying out.

P2 Wellbeing video

As you are aware, P2 have been focusing on a wellbeing indicator each outdoor learning and play session. This week children made an impressive animation featuring their previous comments, which we can now share with you. Enjoy!

Session 6: Responsible

Our focus today from the SHANARRI Wellbeing wheel was ‘Responsible’.

When Mrs Mackey came into school this morning before the boys and girls arrived, she saw a flock of sparrows feeding on our fat balls we made! She videoed this and shared this with the boys and girls, and congratulated them on how successful they have been in attracting and helping local wildlife, especially during Winter! We think we have made the best bird food in Paisley!

We risk assessed our garden area and saw that it was very icy and not safe for us to learn and play in, and thought we should conduct our learning in another way, which was very responsible! We were responsible by making our own wellbeing animation, where we discussed the indicators of the SHANARRI wellbeing wheel. It is very impressive and we shall share it with families and the school tomorrow once we put in a few more finishing touches! So watch this space!

We were also very responsible by learning more about the habitats of animals and insects through the magical shine a light book titled “Secrets of Winter”. In this story we shined a torch light behind the pages to reveal where animals choose to live in the Winter.

Session 5: Achieving

This session, our focus for outdoor learning was ‘Achieving’, from the SHANARRI Wellbeing wheel.

We learned that the indicator ‘Achieving’ is also our first school value. The meaning of this word is when we work hard at something to achieve something good for ourselves, other people or other things. We reflected on the meaning of this word to us, and how this made us feel, which was very good!

We also reflected on our achievements in improving our garden, as a result of children’s ideas and hard work. P2 children remembered the branches they cut and sawed in preparation for making a den. They were very impressed to observe that P3 have continued this work and placed a cover over the branches which were left standing to begin this den. We brainstormed how we could achieve further improvements to our garden.

We heard from Mrs McDonald and Mrs Mackey that P3 children have observed black birds, robins and sparrows feeding at the bird feeders we made. These can be seen from our new bird hide in the school corridor! All the children were very busy conducting garden and pond maintenance today and were confident doing so.  While exploring Amelia and Olivia discovered an interesting collection of slate pieces. Tom and Chloe sequenced these by size at our mud kitchen. Adam made a very popular suggestion that we could use these pieces and leaves to make a house for hedge hogs, next to the pond on Thursday.
