I hope you all enjoyed the story book that I posted on Monday’s literacy blog – ‘Everybody Worries’ by Jon Burgerman – a book for children who may have worries about the Coronavirus.
Here it is again, in case you missed it on Monday…
As it is mental health awareness week I thought you might like a couple of wee activities about this during the week. Today the focus is worry. Have a think about some things that you worry about.
Remember the book Lucy’s Blue Day – It’s ok not to be ok!
It also helps to talk about things that you are worried about with other people and not keep it all to yourself. Talking about it makes us feel better.
Talk with an adult about some things that worry you and what kind of things you could do to feel better when you are worried….
Talk to an adult about what is making you feel worried
Take deep breaths
Count to 5
Do some exercise
Cuddle someone in your family, or a teddy
Here is the link to Mrs McMillan’s You Tube channel called Take a Moment with Mrs McMillan. It has some more strategies you could use when you are feeling worried and anxious.
Today we are going to learn about letter blends. Learning letter blends helps us to read and write.
Each letter within theblend is said individually, but quickly, so they ‘blend‘ together. bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fr, tr, fl, gl, gr, pl, pr, sl, sm, sp and st are all examples of blends.
Warm Up:
Watch this video and read along with the blends
Can you read all the letter blends below? Remember to say each sound quickly so they ‘blend’ together!
Main Activity:
Write down the words from the sheet by adding the correct letter blend to the beginning of the word. Remember there will be 2 sounds. Can you hear them both?
If you would like to, you can draw a picture next to your word
Extra Challenge:
Try writing out the words from the sheet above in capital letters as well as lowercase letters e.g. glasses GLASSES
Game to Support Learning:
This is a great game to learn about letter blends BUT it needs flash player so might not work on all devices –click here to try it.
Today is our day we do some work on our subtraction skills.
Warm Up:
Go on a number hunt around the house and find as many numbers as you can – when you find a number, take away 1 from it e.g. if you find the number 16, take away 1 and your answer is 15
Remember – when you take away 1 you just go to the number before
What is the biggest number you can find? I managed to find the number 100 in a book so I took 1 away and wrote down 99. Can you beat me and find an even bigger number?
Main Activity:
Write down your subtraction sums in your jotter and then answer them
If you find it easier, you can draw the pictures to help you solve each problem – cross out the amount to take away, then count how many are left
Game to Support Learning:
Practice your subtraction skills with this game – click here!
Extra Challenge:
Sing along with this video all about subtraction – it really made me laugh!
Happy Tuesday to you all. Here are today’s lessons for you.
Writing Tuesday
Today is the day we do some work on our writing 📝 . Remember it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to spell a word – just sound it out and try your best to write it 🤩.

Make sure you remembertall, fallandsmall letters
You can choose to practice writing lowercase letters, uppercase letters or both!

What are they doing?
What are they doing with the bucket and spade?
Where are the children?
Is it the weekend or the school holidays?
Write about the picture using sentences. Say your sentences out loud before you write them and read them back to make sure they make sense
I hope you’ve all had a good weekend. I am still missing you. This is our 9th week away from school now! I can’t believe it. I really enjoyed getting an email from NG to hear how she and her family were and to all about what she has been getting up to.
Well done to CT for 20 minutes reading on Epic reading too!
