Continued Success

The Art & Design Team are pleased to announce continued success within the department.

S5 and S6 pupils have been awarded unconditional places in 3D Design: Model Making for the Creative Industries HND and HND Photography.

We are delighted and excited for them to continue their creative journey.

Well done to all!

Art School Success

The Art & Design Team are pleased to announce some recent success within the department. This includes the artistic achievements of our current S6 pupils.

They have achieved their own personal success in gaining entry to establishments such as The Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, City of Glasgow College and Clyde College, Glasgow to begin their creative journeys. Additional UCAS offers have been received for interviews at the Glasgow School of Art too. Awesome!

These pupils are a massive reflection of the hard work that goes on within the department and we are delighted that their hard work and efforts have been rewarded.

Well done to all!

A particular Thank You to Mrs. Devlin for supporting THS pupils through portfolio building and the interview process, for the above courses.

The Glasgow School of Art Courses

September 18, 2023

GSofA Architecture Portfolio Building
The Glasgow School of Art are searching for S5/6 pupils interested in an Architecture Portfolio Course: a 10-week course. This would be exceptionally useful for applying directly to Art School and help to build a folio for your application, etc.
If anyone is interested in this exciting opportunity, please speak to a member of the Art, Design and Photography Team.
GSofA Film Club
GSA: We are inviting S5 and S6 pupils to “Watch & Chat’, a fortnightly drop-in film club (on Teams) showcasing a diverse range of contemporary creative practitioners. The group discussions will help to develop good secondary research skills and provide a space to practice talking about art, design and architecture in preparation for potential future interviews.
Again, if you are interested please speak to a member of the Art, Design and Photography Team.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS SHOWCASE JUNE 2023

The Expressive Arts faculty would like to cordially invite you to our first Expressive Arts Showcase on Thursday 15th June in the Theatre.

Whilst viewing and bidding on Art and Photography work in a silent auction, you will be served canapes made by pupils from the Home Economics department and enjoy Music items from our wonderful musicians at Taylor High School. The Barista bar will be in full swing alongside a tuck shop to purchase some refreshments. Our raffle hamper is also looking like it will be full of fancy goodies for a lucky winner. If you can’t make it along for the main event in the evening, don’t despair, the silent auction begins at 4 pm.

Advanced Higher Final Work

OUTSTANDING final solutions to our 2023 Advanced Higher Folios.

‘Are You Here?’ by Rachel Tierney

Rachel was inspired by Tom Mead’s painting ‘Working/Not Working’ (2019)

Recognition by Mead: he said, “Ahh thank you so much for sending these! That’s so fantastic to see, and she’s very talented! Such great motivation :)”.

‘My Healthcare Hero’ by Courtney Rehill

Courtney was inspired by Tim Okamura’s painting ‘Nurse Tracey’ (2021)

The Art & Design Team are in awe of this quality work – a huge well done for your creative commitment this year.

Shadowcast Competition Winner

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to LENA SURMA (S3) for winning the Glasgow Kelvin College Design Competition with her contemporary designs – based on forecasted fashion trends.

Lena’s garment description: “Men’s shirt and shorts with pattern inspired by wind turbines and the shadows they cast. Unique pointed style details taken from inspiration”.

Lena’s winning design was constructed by NC and Higher National Diploma Fashion students at Glasgow Kelvin College – her garment was the first to grace the catwalk on 18/05 and will be retained for showcase purposes in the upcoming year.

Showing their support: Olivia, Sawera and Jacob (S3) also attended the GKC Fashion Show 2023 – a terrific event.

Lena’s teacher Mrs. Boyle (who helped to coordinate this competition/event) and the Art & Design team are super proud of the creative talents across the THS Art & Design department.
