Mid-project: S1 Tree of Reflection.

Therapeutic Art uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. S1 pupils were contemplating their life experiences, then collaborating to produce work based on themes of reflection and gratitude.

A few S1 classes were learning about the Bauhaus and Abstraction. Some clever Bauhaus-styled work was created, including cityscapes. Great work from Miss Poole’s class.

Awesome S1 landscapes inspired by David Hockney’s pattered landscapes, combined with some Zen inspiration. Great work from Mrs. Devlin’s class.

VAN GOGH CRITICAL WORK WITH QUIZ and a TONAL HOMEWORK STUDY

This week, S1 have 2 assignments to complete:

Assignment 1) This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to learn background information about artist Vincent Van Gogh and complete a quiz to demonstrate their understanding of the artist.

On reading the PowerPoint, pupils will discover facts about Vincent Van Gogh and information relating to his studio work: how he approached work as an artist. The supported audio could help to guide them through his fascinating life and work.

Assignment 2) For homework, pupils will capture an expressive tonal study of an object.

We are excited to see your scores and the results of your expressive study.

Week Beginning 22nd February

SUPERHERO GRAPHIC DESIGN TASK PART II

This week in Art & Design, S1 will only be assigned one project as it’s a large project with a lot of tasks to complete. No additional homework will be set this week.

Pupils are asked to respond to a design brief and create an imaginative Comic Book Cover – incorporating elements from their previous assignment.

Their cover should grab the viewer’s attention by combining symbols, images and text to give visual information about their comic book, its characters and story. This project may require some online research which pupils should ask for permission for by a parent or guardian.

Their comic book cover must also contain:

  • Their superhero logo (created during their last assignment).
  • The name of their superhero (created during their last assignment).
  • Full colour – a tonal approach, black and white, is acceptable.

Pupils are asked to carefully read the Superhero Design Project (Part II) PowerPoint.

With permission from a parent or guardian, pupils could research different comic book covers alongside different font styles to influence their design. Following this, pupils should sketch some loose design ideas before selecting a final layout.

Their final Comic Book Cover should be on A4 paper and completed in full colour if colouring materials are available, if not, then black and white is acceptable.

LIBBY WALKER ILLUSTRATION TASK

This week in Art & Design, S1 will be working on a lockdown illustration task. Pupils are asked to carefully read the PowerPoint about illustrator Libby Walker, to gain an understanding of a working artist. Following this, pupils are asked to create a personal illustration of what is going on in their home. Pupils can use any materials (including pencils, pens, paints, etc.) to capture as much detail as possible.

In addition to this, pupils are asked to complete a tonal study for their homework.

The Art & Design Department look forward to seeing their work and giving feedback!
