Creative Residency

Congratulations to Roisin Brennan in S4 who has been offered a place at this year’s Creative Residency programme in Oban to focus on her Creative Writing.  Roisin will enjoy a week basking in the sun of Oban at the end of the June while working on her creative writing with a team from North Lanarkshire, which includes other succesful S4 students and a professional writer.  We wish Roisin well and look forward to reading her stories.

National 5 English Books

Nat 5 & Higher English Students are reminded they should return their books as soon as possible as these are needed for new courses.  Nat 5 pupils have been particularly bad at returning their texts and will not be issued with any new books for Higher until their Nat 5 book has been returned to their class teacher.

S4 Social Subjects Trip

Many S4 Social Subjects pupils will head to London with the Faculty on Monday 2nd June 2014. Check out the itinerary to see what we have planned, but please note that it is still subject to change.

All S4 pupils concerned should be at Taylor High School ready to leave by 6.30am on Monday 2nd June 2014 to get the bus to Glasgow Central station. Please call the school mobile phone on 07793599016 if there are any problems. They will return to the school by approximately 8.45pm on Wednesday 4th June 2014. Please note that these dates are within the school scheduled S4 study leave, but their exams will be over.

Please pack weather appropriate clothing, sunblock if necessary and footwear suitable for lots of walking! Ensure that staff are made aware of any medical or dietary requirements in advance by contacting the school on  01698 274976 and that you bring plenty of any required medications.

Miss Murphy’s S5 homework

Miss Murphy’s S5 homework and revision aids are in the National 4 (Intermediate 1) and National 5 (Intermediate 2) sections, in the English department. You will find revision powerpoints for all texts and two SQA past papers, Complete both Close Reading papers, choose any 4 Critical Essay questions (one for Blood Brothers, two poetry questions for In The Snackbar and Mid-Term Break and one for Fearless) and complete these essays. All homework is due on 22.04.14.

S4 – S6 Easter School

Easter School takes place once again from Monday 7th until Wednesday 9th April.  Timetables have been issued to all students in Fourth to Sixth Year with a wide range of subjects on offer involving many members of staff. Most students have already signed up for courses across the three days.  Any student who has not yet done so is welcome to attend on the day and sign up for a study course! BBC School News Report Day

Taylor High School takes part in the annual BBC School News Report Day on Thursday 27th March along with hundreds of other schools throughout Britain.  The Taylor team is led by Mrs. Burton, Principal Teacher of English and Mr. Richardson, Teacher of ICT, who are working with a large team of students from First, Second and Third Year.  On the day they will prepare news reports and publish them on a special page on the school website throughout the day.  The BBC sample school reports throughout the day and feature them on the BBC website in a special area.

Amalgamation Consultation Meeting – Tuesday 25 March

North Lanarkshire Council will hold Public Consultative Meetings this week in each of the three schools affected by the proposal to amalgamate Taylor High School with Our Lady’s High School with Bothwellpark High School co-located on a new campus on the Ravenscraig site.

The meeting in Taylor High will take place in the school Games Hall at 7.00pm on Tuesday 25th March 2014. Senior officers of the Council will chair this meeting.

The other two public meetings will be held in Our Lady’s High School on Monday 24th March and in Bothwellpark High School on Thursday 27th March. Both of these meetings will also begin at 7.00pm.

All parents and interested parties are urged to attend.

NLC Amalgamation Consultation Document

Third Year Options Information Meeting – Thursday 27 March, 7.00 – 9.00pm

The Third Year Options Information Meeting for parents of pupils currently in Second Year will take place on Thursday 27th March 2014 from 7.00 – 9.00pm approx.  This meeting will consist of a presentation by senior members of staff in the school theatre which will highlight key aspects of this year’s options programme for parents and pupils.  This will be followed by the opportunity to visit subject departments around the school in order to obtain more information about individual subject areas from subject specialist staff.  In the near future all pupils in Second Year will have an options interview to confirm their choice of subjects for Third Year and all parents of pupils in Second Year are encouraged to attend this important meeting.
